READERS, PLEASE RETWEET THIS POST USING THE BUTTON UP TO THE RIGHT!!!
As you know, I don’t often post about political issues here, it’s just not my thing, but I do realize that it should be everyone’s “thing”. (I’m thankful for Kimberly’s blog, because she keeps me up on the latest issues.) While you may be like me, and you really don’t love politics, if we want to keep democracy alive, we all know that it’s a “game” we have to play in order for change to happen and for our voices to be heard. So I’m jumping in today. (Read what precipitated all this and what in the world it has to do with Google ads.)
If you don’t live in Ohio, please forward this to someone who does!
- Read about Proposal 2 and why I’m hoping you’ll vote NO on Tuesday! Here’s an excerpt from Kimberly Hartke’s blog: “There is something really rotten and stinky going on in Ohio. On the Ballot this coming Tuesday is Issue 2, which proposes to set up a permanent livestock board that will tell farmers how they must run their farms. Huge agribusiness groups, even soy producers from around the country are funding the political campaign that will subject farmers to the bureaucratic whims of this board. If the board says, you must confine your animals, you must use antibiotics in the feed, whatever, the farmers will have to comply or else. While consumers are led to believe this board will protect animals and insure their “quality of life.” That is actually a ruse. This measure is not about animal husbandry. It is about control, and who has it.”
- From the Humane Society: 6 Reasons to VOTE NO ON 2 – and here’s an excerpt from Augie’s site about the Humane Society: The people in the Big Ag system are being told that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) wants to make everyone vegetarians. Well, they may, but their opposition to Issue 2 is far from making us all vegetarians, it is along the same lines as mine is–the intelligent, profitable, healthy treatment of animals by allowing them to be employed on the farm to form a system of diverse agriculture that solves the problems of disease, pests, crop failure, decreasing fertility, economic loss, etc. Do you understand? Big Ag is pushing us into further sickness and disease, financial loss, less choices in foods, foods with less nutrients, etc. while telling us that further regulations will help us, when they serve to further disempower us, making us sicker, poorer, and more depressed in every way! We NEED to reform agriculture and throw off the yolk of the “Get Big or Get Out!”

Thanks for this post. I am an Ohioan and this is one scary vote. I really have no feeling on which way it’s going to go. I’m in Columbus and the only signs I see are to vote yes. In the suburbs, every field I pass, even at the farm markets. People really do not have any idea how much freedom we could be handing over. I don’t have a good feeling about it.

It seems that there are a lot of new laws being proposed for “safety” reasons. Instead of being concerned for safety the government and its ministries and organizations just want more control.
Makes me so angry.

I’m also from Ohio and I feel very strongly about this issue. I angry at the misconceptions people have because of deceitful campaigning. People- if you want to make sure the animals and products you consume are raised humanely do what I do and shop from local, small farms! Vote with your wallet. Don’t give all control to a financially motivated group of people who care NOTHING about animal treatment or your health.
I’m really nervous what this could mean for my family if it passes. I’m afraid I’ll be forced back into vegetarianism because there is no way I would ever touch conventional meat or milk.

If I’m reading the results correctly, this measure passed (almost 2 – 1)

Quite creepy that this could even happen and that it could pass without me hearing a word about it when I live in neighboring Illinois . . .
Might they be coming here next?
Definitely must pray.
