I made a ham, cheese, mushroom, and onion omelet for breakfast. Will have homemade salmon patty for lunch with lettuce and mushrooms and onions. I have in the crockpot a pork lion with celery, carrots, onions, parsley, and seasoning. This will be our dinner. I will add potatoes for the rest of the family.

Last summer my doctor (Dr. Ali) put me on a detox, with no grains or starchy vegetables, for 2 months, gradually putting grains and starchy vegetables back in my diet. It was difficult (lots of avocado dressing on vegetables that were not starchy). She also had no animal products for the beginning, although I did drink raw goat’s milk after a week of a strict diet.
I am going to focus this time on eating better, exercising, etc. I think I am having trouble with some foods. For example, I have found when I eat store-bought bread, I have pains going up and down my arms and legs. I am hoping that I can eventually eat spelt and kamut in a sourdough bread, but not too much of it like I usually eat.

I’m trying to slowly get started in the pastured meat and raw dairy as finances allow, I also have 3 teenage boys and my husband. I actually need to regain some muscle and I’m hoping that going as grain free and sugar free as possible will help.

I’m in! My goal for this year is to get back to my pre-baby weight—that is, the pre-baby weight that I weighed six babies ago. With each baby, I never lost the last 6-7 pounds and now I need to lose about 40.
The only problem is that I might be pregnant. If I’m pregnant, I still want to work on watching what I eat (1) so that I don’t gain more than what’s needed and (2) because I’m still nursing my seven-month-old and I really don’t want to stop even if I am pregnant…but that means I’ll be eating for three!
Regardless, I had already planned on losing weight and getting healthier, and this way I can share experiences with others and have some accountability, too. So, hello to everyone and happy New Year!

I don’t crave sweets at all anymore. And I eat a LOT of carbs. I’m also pretty thin, in fact thinner than I was when I was eating less carbs. Usually people crave sweets when they’re not getting enough fat or carbs or overall calories – it’s a quick fix for the body.
I just think everyone should be REALLY thorough with research before trying low-carb. There are major risks which at least you should be aware of before taking them on. And it’s really important to be aware that low carb has negative effects on the adrenals, thyroid and insulin sensitivity. It’s not something to be taken lightly.

i’m not sure about setting goals for losing weight, even though i should as i’m tired of looking in the mirror — LOL!
i am planning, however, to start my kids (will be 3 and 5 in a few weeks) on the gaps diet. at first, i thought i’d do it for them, to get them healthy since they have compromised immune systems due to their many, and severe food allergies, but i think i’ll join their bandwagon and hopefully get my DH on it too – with or without him knowing it! haha. HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

My #1 goal is to get back on track with real foods. My husband has been out of work for over a year and with money tight (and stress high) it was easier to to buy/use more refined flours and sugars. I am very good at planning but horrible at following thru with the plan.
#2 goal is to loose another 10-20 ponds. Getting back to eating right will help a lot.

My goals are to continue low carb and to keep learning about and eating real food. I lost a few pounds just by eating real food and avoiding all white and processed food. I’ve been off coffee for a few days now and would also like to reduce the wine in the evenings. Thanks for all the great support and inspiration!

My #1 goal is to get my hubby off statins. I thought I had succeeded with our real food diet, but his dr said his blood sugar level is not where it should be. By the way, he exercizes regularly at the gym. From what I read on the westin a price website we need to eat raw food like meat and fish. I’m not there yet!
My #2 goal is for me to exercize regularly. I hate to say it but I find I spend too much time on the computer everyday keeping up with all you bloggers. It doesn’t help that my computer is too slow. I am excited about your giveaways. I haven’t won anything yet so maybe this will be my year. Thanks, Kelly. Looking forward to your tips for losing weight.

Linda, is your husband’s doctor aware that statins increase the risk of diabetes? They could be specifically what is causing the blood sugar issues. You may want to do some research to present to him/her.

Sounds great! I am more than 200lbs overweight (as in I need to lose nearly two whole people in body weight; yes, that is scary!) and while I have no grand delusions I will lose it all this year, I need to start chiseling away at it. Depression hit me hard this past year leading me to hit the junk and I’ve had enough! I grew up on refined grains and sugar and Mom always wondered why I was always so fat. Low carb always works great for me and as I commented on another post, if I plan to succeed, I will :).
