I wanted to show you what our kids had for their healthy bedtime snack tonight. Lately, even if they eat a good dinner, they will still whine about a snack before bed. I think it's just a bad habit we have let form, but when their snack is as healthy as this one, I don't mind so much. It was delicious, so I had some too, and then I had to snap a picture. (They're getting used to me saying, “Don't eat that! I have to get a picture first!”)
Our Healthy Bedtime Snack:
- I cut up our last fresh, local apple of the season – what a sad day! Although I'm calling the orchard tomorrow, maybe they still have some. (Good thing I froze a bunch of homemade raw applesauce or I'd really be bumming.)
- Crackers, these Einkorn sourdough crackers are my new favorite, or I also could've given them a few crispy nuts.
- And yes, some store-bought cheese cubes – raw cheese would have been better, but I didn't have any.
- “Sausage”, or that's what I called it for the kids, anyway. Don't tell, but it was actually “Head Cheese” – it sounds disgusting, but it's not! It's just beef heart, and yes, a little beef tongue, along with some spices. It just tastes like sausage and it's great with a cracker and cheese.
