Wait until you see this crappy commercial from the NY Times video library. It was brought to my attention by a reader, Katrina, she knew it would get me going.

I’m a “Butterton”

Hopefully you are, too. Not only because butter tastes great, and because fake processed junk like I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter doesn’t belong on our tables or in our veins, but also because it is good for us! (My baked potatoes have almost as much butter on them as the ones in this commercial…well, maybe not that much, but at least a couple tablespoons. We go through a lot of butter around here.)

I’ll say it again… Is it working?

For 30 years or more, “they” have been telling us to avoid saturated fats, but are we any healthier? Look around. Do you see more overweight people or less? Do you hear about more cancer or less? Are there more heart disease and diabetes patients or less?

One more reason it makes sense to me

Whenever I might have times of doubt, wondering if maybe “they” are right (doctors, drug companies, etc.), I only have to ask myself, “What is closest to how God gave it to us in nature? Butter, or I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter?” That seems like a no-brainer to me.

Don’t believe me

Thank you! Every time I see that blankity-blank commercial, I want to scream obscenities and throw uncouth gestures at the TV (and sometimes I give in).

I am a Butterton, and proud of it! Life is definitely better as a Butterton.

I am a Butterton too…… especially now that I’ve got making butter from my raw cream down pat…… oh there’s no comparison to that stuff! I had a slice of homemade cornbread slathered with the stuff last night to go along with my homemade taco soup! There is something so satisfying about real food.

I believe it was the book “Real Food” that said that whenever you pick up a product at the store, if it’s got “fad nutrition propaganda” on it, then you know it’s BAD. I was thinking of that as I looked at the picture of the margarine tub in the post. She said, “no one ever puts a health claim on a whole food – for example, the apples aren’t labled with ‘x grams of fiber per serving’ “…… but all the processed foods usually have health claims/nutrition propaganda. That’s usually the first sign you’re buying a highly processed food, made from junk ingredients, masquerading as a “healthy choice”.

I am a Butterton!

I looked closer at the fake butter link under the photo and the “nutritious oil” they claim are “liquid soybean oil” and “partially hydrogenated soybean oil.”

I’m happy to say that I never fell for the buttertrap… but I fell for other things so that keeps me humble :) .

I’m a Butterton too! One of the first food changes we made years ago was to eliminate hydrogenated oils and we switched from I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter to REAL BUTTER!! We ate it so sparingly though. Grace’s pediatrician actually had to ask me to put butter on her waffles/toast. I was so concerned about fats and wanting to set her up for lowfat lifestyle. Luckily I have seen the light and my still very skinny little girl gets lots of healthy fats and whole foods everyday now!

I firmly believe that God led me to this website. It may sound silly to some, but what started out as a quest for better health has become so much more for me! I’m with you and firmly believe that the “Maker’s Diet” is the only one out there. Pretty good book, too! :O) Thanks for all you do!

We love it!
We would rather go without than eat that other stuff.

Samann, makes me glad I don’t have time for TV.

Shauna, I wish I had enough cream to make raw butter, too! Off topic – you were right! There must be a weird glitch with the “properly prepared grains” post – I can’t find the comment box, either!

Beth, I fell for the buttertrap and much more!

Liz, your DOCTOR told you to give Grace more butter?!!! That’s so cool! Remind me to ask you who that is.

Lisa, not silly at all – He’s always doing crazy cool stuff. :) I’m glad He led you here!

Candace, I’m with ya sistaaaaa

Thanks everyone! I looooooove hearing from you!!! You always make my day.

I am always recommending your site to people as a jumping off point.

Katrina,

Thanks for telling others about the site. :)

Hey, how about that recipe?! I’ve got sweet potatoes in the frig and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them…

If you could email it to me, I’ll post it: Kelly@Kellythekitchenkop.com, thanks!

Another Butterton, I have a whole family of them! My third son will just eat chunks of butter if I let him.

Also, I first noticed how nice and yellow that butter was haha! Made me hungry :)

Hi Erica,

You reminded me, my kids like eating it plain, too! Now *that* is something even I couldn’t do!

Yup, all my kids have gone through spurts where they just eat huge chunks of it. My oldest son used to sneak in the fridge and it eat by the stick. Their little bodies must have needed it for something. It’s not something I could do either, haha :)
