BENEFITS/DOSING/GETTING IT DOWN:
Read the 3-part series explaining that while regular CLO is great for us (read all about it in this original CLO post), fermented CLO is EVEN BETTER! INFO BELOW (part 3) ON WHERE TO BUY THE FERMENTED COD LIVER OIL. Also, I tell you in this series what I thought after I began taking the liquid!
Part 1: Why I now ONLY recommend the fermented cod liver oil
Part 2: More about the taste differences, how MUCH to take, and about butter oil
Part 3: WHERE TO BUY THE FERMENTED COD LIVER OIL
Dave Wetzel & an UPDATE with more information on Fermented Cod Liver Oil!
The original 3-part series with all the basics about CLO, including:
Part 1: The many benefits of cod liver oil / Do we really need to take it? (Especially important for pregnant Moms or those planning to become pregnant!)
Part 2 - Cod liver oil: tips for getting it down – how to get our kids to take it, and how to get it down ourselves!
Part 3 – Cod liver oil: what to buy, where to buy it, and how much to take
SAFETY CONCERNS:
- How safe is the fish oil you’re giving your kids? This is one of the reasons I’d never give my kids (or myself!) “fish oil” from the store – the other reason being it is no where NEAR packed with the nutrients as the FCLO is. Here’s what the Green Pastures site says about this article: “ Green Pastures uses the premier PCB testing lab in the country and the results are always below prop 65 mandates. Most fish oil companies do not test PCB’s as the law does not require testing but we do test. We make very small batches and lots compared to the industry so our testing is done more frequently.”

- Questions about possible vitamin toxicity with CLO – 2 part series from Sally Fallon & Chris Masterjohn
- How can it be safe? I thought the liver’s job was to filter waste?!
- Addressing the recent cod liver oil bashing from Dr. Mercola and Dr. Cannell
- The following post is irrelevant now (see “why you shouldn’t take iherb or other brands now” above), but in case you’re wondering, you can read Why isn’t Carlson brand CLO on the Weston A. Price recommended brands page anymore?

Hi Jodell,
The best way to do that would be to go through your local Weston A. Price chapter – you can find info on your local chapter here: http://www.westonaprice.org/localchapters/index.html
Also, I know a couple more bloggers from Seattle: http://oreganicthrifty.blogspot.com/ and http://www.thenourishinggourmet.com, maybe they have more ideas.
Good luck!

Oops, I think I told you wrong, Jodell. I think those two bloggers live in Portland.
But the local chapter would still be a good place for you to start!

Hi Kelly,
Great site! I also now prefer the fermented CLO. However, I’ve found “Sonne’s #5 COD LIVER OIL ~ 16 oz. Liquid” unrefined CLO for a good price on LuckyVitamin.com.
Sonne’s web site says the oil is processed without chemicals or heat and the vitamin A/D ratio is 10/1. I was wondering what you and your readers think about Sonne’s #5.
Cheers!
Rob

Rob, I’ll stick with Green Pastures, and this is why: I’ve met Dave, the guy who makes it, and read many articles by him. He’s visited Norway to make sure he’s making it correctly – the way it was traditionally made. Also, Gr. Past. is fermented, and I always need more fermented foods in my diet! Sonne may very well be a good brand, but I don’t know the company or that product. Maybe someone else can chime in who knows more…?
Take care!
Kelly
