Concerned About Statin Drugs

My brother had surgery on his knee yesterday and was telling me about a conversation he had before the operation with his anesthesiologist, who happened to be from India.

“Do you have high blood pressure?”

“No.”

“Do you have diabetes?”

“No.”

“Do you have acid reflux?”

“No.”

“You don't have any of the American diseases! 9 out of 10 patients I see who are over 50 years old have at least one of these.”

How sad and plain WRONG! Why are we accepting it?! Why aren't more of us digging for what is causing this and screaming what we find from the rooftops?!

I'm on my roof, are you?

I know it's a struggle when many aren't willing to change their eating habits, or break out of what they've always thought to be true. But some are open and ready to listen. I actually had a good chat all about butter today with the lady ringing up my groceries. She couldn't believe butter is actually good for you, but when we talked about what people have been eating for centuries on their own farms, the light bulbs were going off.

In the comments, I hope you'll tell me about the ways you are trying to get the truth out about health and nutrition.

    Lisa,

Isn’t it funny how some “poo poo” what you’re doing and think you’re “over the top”, as they eat their junk, pop their pills, then head off to their doctor appointment…

Thanks for the sweet comments. 🙂

    Hi Kelly,

I agree with you! We are responsible for our own health and there are so many natural “cures” out there that so many people don’t know about. I had GERD and gastritis and was taking Prilosed DAILY! Eventually it quit working. I believe that God has led me down this path of health and healing. I went to my local health/vitamin store (a mom and pop store, not a national chain) and got so great supplements to get myself on the road to health. It worked!! I do not suffer from gastric problems any longer and am sure to take my probiotics daily. I also take the Cod Liver oil (thanks to you!) and have begun juicing vegetables — yummy! I’m on a journey and try to tell everyone at work about it, as well as share some of my farmer’s market bounty. Most poo-poo what I’m doing as “over the top”, but I know what it’s done for me. I so appreciate your blog. It’s such a ministry and I’m sure has helped so many. Keep up the awesome work!! :O)

    Kelly~

Amazingly, we ate mostly the S.A.D., but less of the processed stuff than average. Mom was a stickler about whole-wheat everything. She did some canning of fruit & veggies. We only had sodas on long car trips. I drank lots of milk (again, standard fare, not raw.) She made her own soup stocks often…perhaps that was a key item.

What else…she did nurse me for 18 months. I started taking swallowable vitamins around age 6. A multi, a calcium, a b-complex, and occasional brewer's yeast or lysine when the need arose. Clockwork dental visits, which always went well.

I do have a broader face than the average Caucasian, coming from Hungarian/Eastern European background. That lends well to having a less "crowded" mouth.

I hope to pass on the good genetics along with a better diet to my future littles. 🙂

I garner similar disbelief when I tell folks I have no cavities (in my late twenties)and had no braces.

Momma, that’s neat that he’ll listen! Funny how some are so open, or at least willing to listen, and others are SO closed to anything but what comes from their doc.

YOU are what I’m doing to get the word out! My father-in-law was over Monday night (60 yrs old, not overweight, high blood pressure/high cholesterol, on meds, but taking them sporadically), and I was reading pages after page of your blog to him!

He is reluctant to take meds and stop eating real butter, etc, but his wife…well, you know. She believes all the standard medical advice. They have all fat-free and synthetic junk in their kitchen.

He was a bit encouraged to hear what I had to say. I hope he stops the drugs altogether and returns to the diet he loved years ago!

I feel your pain, Shauna, but I don’t know if I agree that we’ll always be in the minority. I’m undecided on that part.

On one hand, most of us are so “Americanized” in that we want what we want and often don’t care about where we are headed in the future, only about our immediate gratification – I’m just as guilty sometimes.

But on the other hand, I look around at how many friends and neighbors are now making huge changes in how they eat, and I can’t help but think that the news will keep spreading and that people will get fed up with being sick.

I’d love to hear other’s comments on this discussion, too!

    Kelly,

I was watching the news last night, and they were touting the fact that “more research firms” are moving into the “medical mile” here in G.R. Here’s what STRUCK me……. the medical industry is what is going to supposedly SAVE our economy here in West Michigan……. ISN’T THAT A PARDOX? So – we have the largest employer industry: the food processing industry (employing more people in this nation than ANY other industry right now), producing foods that are KILLING us (literally!), and we’re going to SAVE our economy with all these jobs created from RESEARCHING AND PRODUCING DRUGS that to save us from the FOOD we eat! (The news blurb last night touted that this new firm would be developing over 600 NEW drugs to treat more than 100 DISEASES!!!!)

This is why it isn’t being shouted from the rooftops…… do you realize that if EVERYONE did what we did – the economy would implode? If everyone bought local and ate local…… no more mega-super-markets; what supermarkets there were would have FAR less on thier shelves, no more truck driving industry in the food arenas….. no more gov’t subsidized mega-farms, food industry would lay off THOUSANDS of people, etc etc etc…… it would take several years to recover and to transition to a strong “local” economy rather than a “national economy”.

The sick thing is that the monster we’ve created looks something like this: Our economy depends on us eating crap and getting SICK so that jobs can be created in the process of drugging us back to “health”!

Okay – calming down now……. truthfully – I believe that it is always going to be the MINORITY of people who search out local foods and eat REAL food.

    Hi, Kelly,

    What a great post!

I just got Gary Taubes’ book “Good Calories, Bad Calories” in the mail (from Amazon). I can’t wait to start reading it.

I tell everyone who will listen how good butter is. And whole milk and cream and eggs… etc.

I appreciate what you do so much — your blog is a beacon in a dark stormy night.
