New York Style Pizza or Chicago Style Pizza?

January 5, 2009 · 8 comments

Kent began watching cooking shows on the Food Network about a year ago, and I like them, too.  But what I really love is how they inspire him to cook more!  Today he made two pizzas, a New York style thin crust pizza and a Gino’s Chicago style deep-dish pizza.

Look at Joe’s face, can’t you just tell he’s making a wisecrack?  This is a classic shot of Kent & Joe, too bad you can’t see their beer nearby for the total picture.  Notice the empty sink behind him?  He’s always loading and unloading because it bugs him if dirty dishes pile up there (I love his pet peeves like that one!), he has no idea how much I love it when he’s got that towel thrown over his shoulder.  You-know-what really does begin in the kitchen, right ladies?

Here are the recipes he used:

He was making these pizzas all afternoon, but as he did it he watched football and had a couple beers with Joe, so he said he didn’t really mind that it took up so much of his Sunday.  I totally agree, I love to cook when I don’t have to be in a big rush to get dinner on, which isn’t very often!

THE VERDICT:

Our family preferred the New York style, but it was fun trying both.  The only thing you might want to do different from the recipes above is to pre-bake the crust for the New York style pizza.  Put it in for about 10 minutes of the total baking time first, add the toppings, and then bake the rest of the time.  This way you’ll end up with a crispier crust. Kent used mostly organic ingredients, too.  Other than that, it was all the same.

They turned out great!  Unfortunately, we were so excited about eating the pizzas that I forgot to take pictures when they were done.  Oh well, you all know what a pizza looks like.

The kids weren’t thrilled about going back to school tomorrow, so later we made homemade ice cream for a treat.  Homemade pizza & ice cream for our Sunday dinner, and husband did all the cooking…life is good.  :)

I like how Kent cleans up after himself too. In fact one person’s blog I was reading the other day had a listing of her New Year’s resolutions and to “clean as I go” while cooking was one of them! The pizza sounds wonderful by the way.

Kent – You look like you were having way to much fun! Great to see you with a towel over the shoulder ready for clean up. Cleaning up as you go is the only way to keep up in the kitchen. How about grilled pizza’s next year?

Thanks.

David,

The Queen & I have been married over 21 years. Finally, I have figured out that with chicks, it’s all about the accessories. Standing by the sink with a towel over my shoulder or at the stove with a spoon in my hand, suddenly she thinks I got it goin’ on. And if you’re looking for a good time, just be seen walking through the house with the toilet brush!

Booch,

The pizzas turned out great and it was a fun thing to do, but with the amount of time that went into it……We won’t be offering pick up any time soon.

Thanks for the thin crust recipe. My mom has been trying to find one! I would love it if my husband made the pizza, too! But, he does a ton of grilling, so I’ll let him off the hook on this one.
