Not long ago I decided that I had gotten lazy around here and let some healthy habits slip, which is probably normal after a few years of striving to live healthier, but after my trip to Minnesota to visit a reader friend (click here to see pictures of their gorgeous farm in my public thank you note), I was really motivated to kick it back into gear. So I wrote this post called, I got Lazy — 5 Ways I've Recommitted to Real Food.
Number five went beyond food, though:
5. Improve on sourcing more organic or natural products. I do think food should come first, but we’ve been making better food choices for a while and still haven’t gotten around to replacing more of our natural care products.
(We’ve replaced a LOT, like laundry soap, deodorant, toothpaste, lip balm, and a few other things, but still have more to go.)
If you want this too, safe skin care for your kids AND for the environment, today I'll show you what I've found for switching out our shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and sunscreen:
Stream 2 Sea!
If you're like me, though, and aren't really AS concerned about protecting marine life and the environment (I know, that's bad) as you are about making sure you have safe products around for your kids, just think though, if it's not safe for fish, it's not safe for us! Also, I've learned that all body care eventually washes to the oceans and streams — Stream 2 Sea is passionate about this and wants us to remember to use eco-conscious products when we are out in the water. This is especially important because of the immediate effects on marine life. (Boating, scuba diving, surfing, etc…)
Safe Skin Care for Your Kids AND the Environment:
- I love their leave in conditioner. It just takes a small amount, smaller than the size of a dime in your hand — I work it to the end of my fingers, and then onto my roots and out to the ends. It detangles, but also makes my hair soft and not heavy or greasy. I tried another natural brand recently that was really soft and velvety as I was putting it on, but later my hair was so heavy it wouldn't hold a curl, my dry hair felt gummy in my fingers, and it looked greasy by evening! (This company was ready to spend a lot of ad dollars on my blog, too, but I had to pass since I just didn't like it.)
- The sunscreen also isn't heavy, rubs in nicely, and since I know there are a LOT of scary ingredients in regular sunscreen from the store, I loved knowing this one was safe to cover the kids in. (We don't actually use sunscreen much if the kids are just playing around outside, because I want them to get the Vitamin D on their skin, but not letting them burn is important, obviously! So we use it mostly if we'll be by water for a chunk of time.) Those of you vacationing soon, or if you ski in the mountains, or maybe you live in a warm climate year-round, you'll love this stuff.
- Our daughter and I fight over who gets to keep the lotion in our room, so I'm ordering more of that. 🙂 It's silky smooth, very moisturizing, and again, it isn't greasy and has NO nasty ingredients!

Where to find Stream 2 Sea Safe Skin Care Products
This post was originally paid for by Stream 2 Sea, but I love these products! Believe me, I turn down a LOT of advertising dollars from companies who contact me with products I'd never use myself or on our kids. I know you'll love S2S stuff, too. 🙂

Interesting! I’ve been looking for a good leave-in conditioner since I’m letting the pixie cut I got at the beginning of summer grow out. Been experimenting with one by Beauty Without Cruelty that smells amazing but I literally can’t use more than 2 or 3 drops without ending up with a greasy mess. What’s even more frustrating is the results seem to vary depending on the day. Some days I think my hair never looked better, other days it looks oily right after I wash and dry it even if I only use a couple drops of the BWC. Ugh!
Thanks for letting us know about this brand. I’d never heard of it before.

You’re welcome, Anna, I really love how nice this feels and looks even the next day!

does the tocopherol in the lotion come from soy?
Lisa E Kimball says
Hi Jodie! It’s a mixed vegetable non-GMO sourcing that may include soy. Let us know if you have any more questions.

I am hoping to try this soon. I like that they have small size to try. One member of my family has EXTREMELY sensitive skin. So far there has only been one shampoo she has not had a reaction to. I am leery of trying a new one but it has been awhile since we have tried anything different (kind of afraid to!). Thank you Kelly for bringing products to our attention to try!
