Good morning everyone! I’ll jump all over the place with some goodies for you today, that’s what the Monday Mix-Up is all about, ya know. How fun when I can write the way I speak, drifting around from one topic to the next…
- A neat book by Lisa Hendey (CatholicMom.com) will be published soon. Yours truly and many others have contributed to this book, so keep your eye out for “The Handbook for Catholic Moms.”
- I made my first fall batch of homemade raw applesauce last week and will be making a few more to freeze soon. I’ve got the recipe down so that there aren’t too many pieces of peel in there (not one complaint from the kids), but enough to leave some of the nutrients in it that are found just below the skin. If you haven’t had a chance yet, be sure to check out the MANY comments that poured in when I asked for help on the issue of whether or not we should only eat fruits and veggies in season. (Thank you all!)
- Donielle wrote a cute post last week all about our food at the conference, and with some great pictures, too! (I shared a few of my thoughts in the comments, but I'm not the first “Kelly” in the comments there.)
- Wait ‘til you see this picture of what Kent brought inside for us last weekend. I need some more advice from all of you, though…
- I still haven’t bitten the bullet and gotten an iPhone (and probably won’t be able to for a while yet), but now Bob has me all full of tech-envy again since he sent me a link about a cool new app that helps you figure out the pesticide load on foods: “The tool shows which pesticides are found on what foods, and how those chemicals can harm human health.” I see how Apple gets people to spend the bigger bucks on phones with more memory…to have room for all the cool apps out there! Someday…
HAVE A GREAT WEEK EVERYONE!

Thanks for the heads up about that iPhone app. I had one from the Environmental Working group called Dirty Produce, but that tells you just the worst 12 and the best 15 (and a few in between – what does that mean??).
Interesting though – this says bananas have 12 residues. I thought I’d read that conventional bananas weren’t bad and in this case organic isn’t worth spending extra. Huh? Then again, cantaloupes have 27 residues. Makes 12 look a whole lot better.
That’s some tasty-looking applesauce there!
