Since the post here on the blog the other day was Ticked Off Tuesday I knew that today needed to be Thankful Thursday, because life is precious and we don't want to go around complaining too much, right? (Even when we do have valid stuff to whine about.) SO, today we'll lighten things up a bit. I hope you'll share what you're thankful for today?
Remember the rule, though…
It can't be a big thing like saying, “My children”. It has to be something more specific to keep it interesting.
(On the last Thankful Thursday, we shared “What small insignificant thing brings you great joy” – there were some interesting comments there. You'll think I'm a nut when you read mine, though…)
Here are some on my list – I'm thankful…
- For a freezer full of bone broth, crispy nuts, and pastured meats. Doesn't a stocked freezer feel great?
- When I hop into the van on a cold day and remember that I forgot to get gas and I'm too low to get far, but I'm running late as always… Then I look and see that Kent already filled it up for me. 🙂
- For quiet time in the morning before the kids get up, with coffee in-hand. I need it a lot more these days now that we're homeschooling. If I don't get this time for praying and getting my day's list in order, I really notice a big difference in my level of sanity.
- For the fresh rain smell this morning and the deer in our woods.
- That all four of our kids are still home with us and we're able to eat dinner together almost every night. Our oldest is still living at home to save money, but he graduates from college next year so our days are numbered. Yes, I know this is a normal, good thing. We want him independent and to do well, etc. But for now I'm savoring this time, and I'm sure you Moms know exactly what I'm talkin' about.
- For our 98 year old friend, Eva, who we went to visit this week. I want to be like her as I age. She's still in her own home, her mind is sharper than mine, she reads her bible, visits with friends, and is very content. She's thankful always and for everything. (Especially for my Mom and step-Dad who make sure she has all she needs.)
Kent told me one of his the other day…
- For Saturday mornings when he wakes up to a sink NOT full of dirty dishes, so he can make his coffee and eggs without having to unload and reload first. (And yes, since he told me that, I'll try even harder to make sure that gets done…)
Your turn! Tell Us: What are some specific things you're thankful for?

It’s still Thursday…just a little further West than I am. 😉 I’m thankful that my husband will return home tomorrow night after a LONG business trip. I’ve been barely holding it together without him! And so thankful for a son with a permit, so my kids don’t have to miss thir activities just because mom hurts too much to drive. And finally, SO thankful that the temps here dropped into the negative last night, because someone left the freezer door open all night long (it was in the garage, where the temps were in the single digits all night, so we did NOT lose a freezer full of food!)
Mary says
Very thankful you posted a picture of Eva! She spent a lot of time with us when we were little. She is an amazing lady and I know all the Ruddell’s are thankful for her too!!

Well, I tried replying to each comment, but I’m out of time and have to start supper, I’m enjoying reading all of these, though!!!

I am thankful that today we are celebrating our babie’s 3rd birthday today! I am also thankful that we know so much more about health and nutrition than ever before! I am so grateful that the good news is spreading and more people are becoming aware of what is real food and what is not 🙂
Susan says
Happy Birthday to Baby! I sure loved that age; so sweet! Enjoy Mama!

I am thankful that my dad is still alive and has lived much longer than expected, and with quality of life, despite having metastatic cancer. I am thankful every night when I see my daughter run in, kiss him and tuck him into bed.
I am also thankful that my husband has a job, after eleven months of unemployment a year ago. I am thankful especially for God’s strength that has gotten us through some very difficult times in the past few years and that we still have joy in our lives as we trudge through difficult times.
I am amazed that even in times that are so very difficult, if we look hard enough, there are so many things for us to be thankful for. As we give thanks for those things, the sense of disappointment or loss seems to lessen.

Since I live in Minnesota which feels like a frozen tundra at the moment, I am very thankful for our furnace and shelter from the cold, snow and wind. I am thankful for my husband who gets up earlier than me just to make me coffee every single morning. We are presently walking through a trial in life so I am especially thankful for God’s strength, grace and mercy being present every day and for the family & friends that are walking through it with us. I am thankful that I get to care for my 3 month old granddaughter while her mommy works. I am thankful that we get to eat good wholesome food every day. I am thankful for my bigs and my little’s and all the joy and love they bring to my life. I am thankful for the blog world because it keeps me encouraged, challanged and enriched.
Amy says
Thanks for doing this Kelly. I am thankful for the gift of love, the promise of a better career path that puts me in line with my passions, the ability to access real food and for the farmers who work hard to provide it, and the knowledge I have that there are better ways than the current conventional lifestyle, and the ability to share it with others. And to have a job to go to each day and food in my belly.

Every day I wake up.. I am thankful for another day of Freedom! Thankful my Husband and I had a silly idea to buy some property in the country all the years ago..now we’re living here and raising our babies and farming! I am thankful for each and every fresh egg I find! they are so few and far between this time of year. thankful to be able to give my children such nourishing foods! thankful that even though we woke up to an overdrafted account this morning, our house, cars, land are all paid for. thankful that at 30 I realized life is not about money and material goods but about loving my family as much as I can before I die.

I am thankful to be on the downhill side of sickness with 2 older children. I am thankful for the cries of a baby we tried for 8 years to have. I am thankful to God for placing these children in my life and supplying me with all I need to do the best job for them. I am thankful for this blog, especially this morning, because I woke up in a very selfish mood of wanting a few minutes of not feeding or doing for anyone. I received that and the blessing of this post!

I am thankful that my 12 year old son is healing well from his surgery and that we are both enjoying the new adventure of homeschooling. He has handled his surgery with aplomb and although there have been a few bumps, mostly mine, homeschool has been great.
KitchenKop says
Wow, I’ll bet it’s also been nice not having to worry about what he’s missing at regular school while he’s healing. 🙂
We’re still having plenty of bumps around here, and I can see why some give up, but I’m pushing forward!
Susan says
I am simply thankful for TODAY. Some people out there didn’t get it!

Three years ago I almost died. I am grateful for that time (I can’t believe I am saying that!) because I found out who my real friends are AND I have found real food and have a good, healthy life today~better than before with no medication! I am grateful because the knowledge of real food is also helping my children. We would not have gone down this path had I not had the terrible experience three years ago! I am grateful to God for bringing so much good out of bad. I am also grateful for my husband’s new job and opportunity! I am SO SO SO grateful for my children and the joy they bring me and others. They all live at home but, like Kelly, our eldest will graduate college soon and I know our days are limited. I treasure these moments when we are together. They truly are a mother’s joy. I am grateful for my faith and my parents for raising me and sharing with me their Catholic faith.
KitchenKop says
Wow! That’s so cool when God does that, when He shows us all the good that can come from bad. Kent and I almost divorced many years ago (that story is on my christianity101blog.com blog) and I never thought I could EVER be thankful for going through something so horrible, but sure enough, a ton of good came from it. 🙂
(I’ll add the link to that story here later, there was a glitch on that blog that I just had to go fix, so it’ll be ok in an hour or so…)
KitchenKop says
OK, here’s that story if anyone is interested.

The first thing that came to my mind, was the chance to drive across four states with our boys to see my sister and hers, and for a rental vehicle to make the drive in. We had cruise control, no rain seepage, no wind blowing in, all the doors opened easily, I had a rear view mirror and passenger side mirror, the wipers worked well and stopped in the all the way down position. I am very thankful for our ancient, paid for, van, but the rental made the trip so much nicer. I’m thankful for wonderful driving weather most of the way there and back as well.

It’s amazing what we take for granted isn’t it???

I am thankful for my friend Kelly, yes the KitchenKop. She has given my greatly needed laughs recently (see this Friday’s FLOP video post) and is a constant source of joy because of her ZEST for life!! You never know what will pop up on your TEXT when Kelly is behind it!! =smiling=laughing=loving=
KitchenKop says
Anne, you big sweetie. Hey all, Anne is one of my good friends who I’m bugging constantly with homeschooling questions. Yesterday she was cracking ME up telling how she talks to her boys about puberty. She does it in the car when they can’t get away, LOL! Then she says, “I know you don’t want to talk, and you don’t have to, but there are some things I want you to know about…” Good idea, huh?
Love you Anne!

I’m thankful for God’s reminders about what is important in life. Yesterday I was stressing about money. My son walked by and said, “Mom, do you know you’re the best mom a ten-year-old boy could ever have?” Instantly, money was of no concern. It’s the important things that count.
KitchenKop says
Sweetness. 🙂
Jennifer in PA says
I am thankful for the diligence and motivation of my oldest daughter, age 15. She is competing in a rabbit royalty competition on Friday evening and Saturday in Lebanon, PA. It involves lots of tests and an interview to see what her knowledge of rabbits is. We raise and show them with 4H. This is a great opportunity but I am grateful that I am not pushing her. She is the one driving this and I am seeing her really working hard the past month or so. It is a good sign for the future and her pursuing goals that she is interested in.
I guess this is more significant too because we also homeschool and sometimes you worry about how the kids will turn out.
KitchenKop says
I can appreciate that because I get SO sick of pushing them to do their work! Good luck to her!

After spending more than 10 yrs trying to conceive I had a daughter last year. I have health issues and have had trouble with pregnancies in the past. Today I am thankful that I am surprisingly pregnant again (at 40!) with my second child. I am just 8 weeks along am admittingly nervous about the future, but today I will be grateful for this life that is within me. Today I will celebrate the hope of a new baby.
KitchenKop says
Woohoooooo, that’s awesome!!!!!!!! What beautiful miracles!!!!!!
Rebecca says
Thanks Kelly! You actually prayed for me during my first pregnancy & I really appreciated it!

I am very thankful my husband was wearing his bicycle helmet on Sunday afternoon when he and our teenage son went for a bike ride. A Chihuahua ran out in front of his bike–he tried to avoid it but ended up running over it–and crashed. He hurt his shoulder (separated AC joint) and got beat up and road rashed up a bit, but his helmet, which is now CRACKED–saved him from a serious head injury! No concussion, not even a headache! Plus the chihuahua lived, which is a miracle too! (Probably wont be chasing bikes for a while though!)
KitchenKop says
Wow, Jill, I’m thanking God with you!!!

oh, i have a lot to be thankful for.
I have my health so I am able to work, plus I am blessed to have a job i like!!
it’s cold here in MN, but we had a covering of snow so the world is beautiful!! The farmers here need the moisture so it’s a good thing. The trees are so pretty w/ the snow on them.
we have plenty to eat, our freezers are full of grass fed beef and pork and we still have some wild caught AK salmon my husband caught.
we have freedom to worship here in america as we believe.
your friend is beautiful! aren’t the elderly they best? I love them. I have elderly friends, I love them. they are jewels!
Have a blessed day.

She really is soooooooooo sweet. Every time I go to see her, she’s always reading her bible. 🙂
