Good morning reader friends! Here's what I've got for you today…
- Thank you Deb for sending along this 11 minute video about ‘secrets'. As she said, “For a change, some really nice, good news.” And here's the website referred to in the talk: Post Secrets.
- Look what I ordered last week: Rubbermaid Produce Saver Storage Containers. A friend who did a winter veggie CSA with us was telling how long her produce lasted in the frig using these, which was WAY longer than ours lasted! Nothing ticks me off like wasting expensive organic produce just because we couldn't get through it all before it went bad.
- Any of you with special needs kids will appreciate this post from a local blogging friend, Jen, about the nightmare that I.E.P.'s always are. And why is that? Why would schools put parents through the wringer when they already live a life of sometimes constant struggles? I don't get it. Just in case you're blessed to not know what I.E.P. stands for, it's an “Individualized Education Program“, which based on everything I've ever heard is basically this: the meeting every spring where all the people involved in your child's education tell you what's best for your child. I'm curious: Do any of you out there have good experiences with your I.E.P.??
- Know anyone thinking of starting on the GAPS Diet to heal their immune system (and therefore heal Autism, digestive disorders, asthma, skin ailments, depression and more)? This great resource is now 30% off with the coupon code AUTISM throughout April: What Can I Eat Now? 30 Days on the GAPS Introduction Diet e-book from Health Home & Happiness— a step by step guide to get you started and through the GAPS Introduction diet.
- Have you seen the Nourishing Our Children DVD created by Sandrine Hahn for the Weston A. Price Foundation? We show it at our local chapter meetings now and then. It's a clear, concise, easy to understand presentation of the nutrition principles the WAPF promotes that you can share with friends, or use to give a talk to a group. “Learn how to nourish rather than merely feed your family.”
- Don't forget to enter both giveaways going on right now here at the Kitchen Kop blog? One is for those who are careful about what your kids ingest or what's on your garden — enter to win a garden hose water filter, and the other is for some cool looking glass beverage bottles!
- Here's one to make you laugh, I shared it on Facebook last week (thanks Bob for sending it!):
- Thank you Yolanda who sent this link on Good fats vs. bad fats from Fox News with the comment, “Can you believe they are still pushing this stuff?” And to answer that, NO, I can't. You'd really think mainstream would start to get it at least a little more by now… “Bad Fat: Saturated” – AHHHHHHHH!!!
- Reminder! Readers near St. Louis, MO, did you know that the Weston Price Foundation is planning its first regional conference there next month?! If you've always wanted to go to a WAPF conference (there's nothing else like it for Real Foodies!), then this is your chance. 🙂
- For those of you who are my faithful readers and who read my entire Monday morning mix-up posts (all two of you), you'll notice that I get a lot of links and ideas for this post each week from readers. If you ever come across an interesting article or video that you know I'd love to share, please email me: [email protected]. Thanks!

Hello Kelly, I use your blog as my go to….I check it for all kinds of issues, I appreciate all that you do to keep us informed.
I just looked at the produce containers, and I see they are plastic. I am guessing this plastic is okay with you? I really really need something just like this, and have been hesitant to buy anything, because everything is plastic.
I would really appreciate your thoughts.
Once again, thank you sooooo much.
KitchenKop says
No, I hate using plastic, but don’t know of anything similar to these that aren’t plastic, unfortunately. 🙁
But nothing hot or even warm will ever be in these, so that’s a little better…
And wasting money on spoiled produce is something I can’t do, with what we spend on food!
Kelly

Are they BPA free?? I didn’t see anything that said they were or not. Please let me know if you find out, thanks.

I have those and I like them quite a bit. For leafy green things, I like the Space Saver Lettuce Keeper that I found online (https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-International-LKS-06-Lettuce-Keeper/dp/B000OUY2QO).

My son has an IEP, except we just call it ‘homeschooling’ ; )
Beth says
My dh has been on the other side of IEPs countless times and he truly tries to be an advocate for the child. That didn’t always make him popular (with anybody!). I’ve only been on a few as the classroom teacher who would be implementing in reality whatever was drawn up in the ARD meeting (I was more often in LPAC meetings for bilingual ed kids). In all of my dealings, even when we disagreed amongst ourselves at the school level before (and during sometimes) the meeting, we were trying to do what was right for the child. I know it was a bit of utopia and many have really bad experiences with school officials, but I just wanted to put in a positive plug for some out there :).
KitchenKop says
I’m sure there *are* many good-hearted folks out there who really do care about the child, actually *most* are that way I would say, but from all I’ve heard, a lot of them are still afraid to speak up much against the ones calling the shots… And the ones calling the shots are the ones that are under pressure to keep the budget in check.
Stanley Fishman says
Whenever a kid is labeled “disabled’, or “special needs”, a whole host of professional parasites descend on the poor child like a flock of vultures, all trying to make money off the kids problems. It is terrible the way they treat children with real problems, but many children with minor problems are labeled “special needs” because these parasites need more customers. And they always ignore the parents, who know their own child better than anybody. And I have never known anyone to have other than a horrible experience with IEPS.

I must be number 8 who always reads your Monday post! I love it. There is usually at least one tidbit of info that speaks to me.
KitchenKop says
Thank you Suzy and all 8 of you who let me know you read ’til the end, LOL! 🙂

I’ll be back for Real Food Wednesday! I didn’t know you did that, I’m excited and figuring out what I am going to share right now!
Rhonda Launsby says
I hate IEPs, they told me my daughter could not read, she had just finished little house on the prairie series. They told me she would never function on her own, she now has husband, 2 awesome kids, and is a wonderful mother. They can make a penny scream for mercy, lol. I taught my kids practical stuff at home, we took trips around the world by eating diff country’s foods, I made them do summer book reports, taught them how to look something up, etc. Don’t believe what they say in those IEPs.
Stanley Fishman says
Rhonda, thank you for sharing this important information. They would have ruined your daughters life, if you did not stand up for her.

OMG Kelly, you should put a tissue alert on that TED video! Loved it, and I love your Monday Morning Mix-Up feature 🙂
Liz says
LOVED the post secrets video, thanks Kelly! By the way, I always read all the way through your Monday Morning Mix-ups! 🙂
Soli @ I Believe in Butter says
I guess I am therefore the third person who reads your Monday posts. Saw mention of that TED video elsewhere but haven’t had a chance to watch it yet.
Pat says
I read your posts all the way through and love the. I’ve subscribed to numerous newsletters and blogs, but yours is the only one I look forward to reading. Thanks!
KitchenKop says
You’re a big sweetheart for saying that. 🙂

I love your Monday posts, you are too modest. The link you had to the bedwetting article helped one of my kids! It worked – and this was after homeopathy, herbs, acupuncture, chiropractic and eliminating a few foods. I was skeptical but desperate then ecstatic with the results. I’m forever grateful you included that link!!
KitchenKop says
Irene, can you post that link here to save me hunting it down? I should post about it on FB to help more people, thank you for telling me!

Thank you for that, Irene, I’d totally forgotten about it. Is there any chance you’d be willing to share some of your story with us, because I think this needs to be a whole post as it could help so many! Can you email me? [email protected].
Thanks!
