Monday Morning Mix-Up 5/7/2012

As I write this on Friday afternoon, I’m so excited for what we have planned this weekend! Tomorrow we’re going to Traverse City (Northern Michigan) to do wine tasting with some great friends. We’ve never done a trip like this before and I’ll probably end up sharing a whole post about with lots of pictures soon. :)

For now I’ll get right to today’s links that I’ve found around the web lately…

  • A reader friend, Valerie, sent me info on these the other day — have any of you pregnant Moms (or those hoping to become pregnant soon) heard of “Belly Armor“? It’s a protective blanket to shield your baby from dangerous everyday radiation that comes from things like laptops, cell phones, wifi, etc. Or pictured on the right is a protective shirt. (Click on the picture to see it better.) Check it out and let me know what you think!
  • Thanks to my friend Chris for sending these shocking pictures of What the world eats! We certainly don’t eat perfectly around here, but compared to these pictures, I guess we’re doing pretty good. (What about your family?)
  • OK, maybe not. I made these cake balls the other day from a recipe I found online, but I ended up changing it a lot, so I might post it one of these days. IF all of you won’t throw me out of here for adding another dessert recipe to my blog that’s supposed to be about Real Food!
  • Is anyone else struggling trying to get into the whole Google+ thing? Do any of you know how I could *easily* connect it so that if I post something up on my Facebook or Twitter, it also goes to Google+?
  • One of our new sponsors sells these cookies and I’ve heard from a few different sources that they are fabulous and great for kids’ lunches!

“We are in the midst of the single biggest global epidemic of chronic disease in the history of human species. We will spend 47 trillion dollars over the next 20 years dealing with it. 90 percent of people who have it are not diagnosed, and in America alone it affects one half of the population. This chronic disease is “diabesity,” and it is preventable.”

“That is why Hyman says most of what is consumed in America today is not really food. “It’s factory-made science projects” that Hyman says may resemble food, “but are actually Frankenfood.”

  • RealFoodWednesdaysI’ll see you here later this week for Real Food Wednesday! (Did you know that participating is a great way to get more traffic to your blog OR to learn more about Real Food and get some great new recipes, too?!)

  1. It’s amazing (and not in a good way) how many more countries which traditionally ate a more raw and healthy diet with fresh veggies and fruits are jumping on the processed food bandwagon. It would be interesting to see “What the World Ate” say 50-75 years ago and “What the World Will Be Eating” 50 years from now and compare the difference.

BTW: Read your blog regularly. Thank you for sharing such enlightening info on real food.

  2. I got a g+ account last year but really have been underwhelmed by their whole platform. Also very turned off by their policy of banning “fake seeming” accounts (which included one of my people, who until then had quickly been turning into an expert user on the platform) and the fact that they’re being a bit more overt about collecting information about their users.

    • Thanks Sarah! As you know, our sponsors are awesome because they aren’t like typical companies, they actually care about the health of those they make products for and also about the environment. That makes it extra fun to want to help them grow their companies. :)

  3. Those belly blankets could be used by anyone with a laptop on their lap. I’ve tried those cookies and they are pretty good.

    • No kidding! I was thinking the same thing. Before I even opened my e-mail and came to the link this morning, as I got settled on the couch with the laptop not even on my lap, but on my belly (!), I thought “I need to stop doing this or I’ll end up with some weird stomach or abdominal cancer.”

  4. Sorry, I am going off topic but Kelly, I wondered if you heard anything on the Micro Chip Implant Coming March 23, 2013. Not sure if it’s a hoax or not.

      • I have been looking around but can’t find anything that looks credible. I am concerned if it is a hush, hush thing that it is sliding under the radar for most people who don’t have the time or interest to find out. I will keep looking. Please let us know if you find anything out.

  5. I like the real food desserts, so please do post! That’s part of a well-rounded real food diet for most people I think!

  6. Hi Kelly … I’ve been looking into the Google + thing myself and so far I haven’t found anything that isn’t a) a hack or b) a browser plug-in. I was hoping for something pretty streamlined. I’ve been double posting manually for now.

  7. Please post the recipe for the cake balls. They look similar to buckeyes. I’ve been trying to come up with a buckeye recipe using all real ingredients, so I’m interested to hear how you made the cake balls.

    • I’ll probably post it soon, but just so you know, these don’t taste anything like buckeyes – there’s no peanut butter in them. They’re yummy, though!
