Real Food Wednesday 11/2/2011

Sorry this is up late, I had the date wrong!!

NEW HERE?

Welcome and PLEASE read below before you link up as this is a REAL FOOD carnival, and very different from others you may have joined in on.

I LOVE WEDNESDAYS!

It’s that crazy time of the week when you entice us with your links and comments to go check out your blogs and your great REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY tips and ideas or recipes! (Visit that link if you’re new and want to learn more about this blog carnival.) Remember, if you’re a blogger, you’ll draw some good traffic to your site by participating! (This is how I built up my traffic in the beginning, and don’t miss my tips below.)

CAN YOU HELP? (6 rules and tips!) (Note: here’s where those of you who are new will want to read carefully, thank you!)

1. It’s not easy for me to catch them all on my own, and I’d really like everyone to play fair, so if you see any posts that don’t link back to this post (blog carnival etiquette you know!), can you email me please? Kelly@KellytheKitchenKop.com. If you don’t know how, I explain it at this REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY link. (I hate playing hardball and removing links, so let’s all be good to the others who are bringing more traffic to your blogs with their links by doing the same, OK?)

2. Also, PLEASE let me know if you see a recipe posted that is blatantly not Real Food. Someone who is striving and on the journey is one thing (as we all are), but if it’s really bad (canned bread, meat substitutes, Velveeta, margarine/vegetable oil, Egg Beaters, unfermented soy/tofu or any other fake food), please tell me so I can remove it. (If I’ve removed your post, I hope there are no hard feelings, but people come to this post for Real Food ideas, and I don’t want to disappoint.)

3. I hope you’ll retweet and stumble this post and also any sites you visit – this will get more exposure to all of us, thank you!

4. Please don’t link up to your post where you’re writing about something as an affiliate if I’m already an affiliate for the same thing, OK? That includes giveaway posts. (Thank you for understanding!)

5. Want more traffic at your blog? if you’re linking up and hoping for more traffic to your blog, can I make a suggestion for how to boost your traffic? Besides just adding your link to the Mr. Linky doohicky, if you also comment and include just ONE interesting sentence to grab the readers attention AND a link to that specific post, you’ll get more hits for sure, at least from me anyway. I don’t often have time to go through every single link (although I know a lot of people do), but one thing I always do is read the comments. If there’s a sentence that grabs my interest AND a link to get me there easily, I’m much more apt to visit!

6. Don’t have a blog? We still want to hear from you! Please leave your tips or recipes in the comments.

Thank you!

You’re up, and we can’t wait to see your stuff!

Thanks for hosting, as always! I am sharing:

1. A great, healthy (& super yummy ) recipe for Pumpkin Cookies. It has all the allergy options including a sugar free option. I can’t keep my kiddos out of these (or me either :-) !)

2. A way to save $$ with a great Mild Curry Powder recipe. It won our taste-test challenge against a very popular brand!

For me, it’s another REAL FOOD 101 post, which I am really loving as I write each one! This week I talk about how to soak, sprout, and dehydrate nuts, beans, and seeds. I hope to add a sprouting chart to this eventually, but I’m still gathering information to make it complete. http://www.ournourishingroots.com/2011/11/01/real-food-101-how-to-soak-sprout-and-dehydrate-nuts-beans-and-seeds/

Also, if you could come check it out and comment, share, and tweet it, then that would be AWESOME! Our Nourishing Roots is new, and it’s my baby :) And if you could sign up for my feedburner email updates, then that would be extra awesome. Thanks for supporting me as I start out!

Thanks for hosting. I linked today to a post highlighting great info I have read over the past few days. I even linked back to a post you wrote a few days ago about the Farm-to-fork fiasco. Thanks for bringing that story to my attention.

Also, somewhat related, I sometimes feel like I am preaching to the choir when I post things because I follow so many blogs that are like-minded I wonder of anyone finds the information I put out as helpful or different. Well I just talked to a friend today who said he learns a lot from my blog because he doesn’t follow all the ones I follow. He couldn’t believe what happened with the farm-to-fork dinner and he is getting raw milk for the first time this weekend!

Anyway it makes me really excited to know that I am helping to spread the word about real food and I really want to thank you Kelly for helping to spread the word as well. You were one of the first blogs I started following and through this blog carnival I have found so many other great blogs!

Suzy, please keep posting and sharing. We can never have too many voices sharing the truth about food, and everyone has something unique to offer. Every person you reach, like the friend who talked to you about the farm to fork dinner, is helped by what you do.

Some of my readers read many blogs, and some of them only read one or two blogs. Every voice for the truth helps!

Thanks for hosting. My post this week is about how satisfying real food is. When we eat delicious, mouth-watering real food, it nourishes our bodies and we know when to stop eating. Not so with factory food and fast food.

Thanks for hosting us every week, Kelly! This week I linked to my post about GF baked apples for breakfast. It is a cold and snowy Colorado morning here and this is what my kids are having today. I hope you stop by!

I forgot to mention that I had a real life experience which demonstrated why real food satisfies our hunger, and factory food makes us eat too much, which is also described in the post.

In case any of you saw what WAS #33 “Comfort Soup” (which included soy flour, margarine AND low-fat milk), never fear, a faithful reader alerted me and it’s gone now. Gads……. I’m going to leave a comment (I’ll be nice, don’t worry) and ask her to check out blog carnival rules a bit better from now on.

Here’s what I wrote: “I hope you’ll understand, but based on the guidelines I have listed at every Real Food Wednesday post, I had to remove your link. A reader let me know that your recipe includes soy flour, margarine, and low-fat milk. I hope you don’t mind my suggesting this, but for good health, there are much better flours to use (coconut flour, nut flour, sprouted flour), butter is *always* better for us than margarine (or coconut oil if you can’t have butter), and the same is true for whole milk vs. low-fat. The most natural is always the best choice. Feel free to email me with questions or anything I might be able to help you with. :)

I think that is great. I really hope that those that post non real food recipes will take the time to look at your site and the other posts so they can learn more about real food. Unfortunately I think some people just “link and leave” which is such a shame.

Kelly, thank you for deleting that link. I cannot understand how anybody could read the guidelines for real food Wednesday and post a recipe like that, full of things that nobody should eat.

This week I’m sharing my write-up of the death of Steve Jobs. Though he did have cancer, I don’t believe that’s the real culprit of his death. See why I think his dangerously low-fat, cancer-feeding diet caused his cancer to spread beyond control:

Okay, I’m sharing again! I linked to my REAL FOOD 101: How to Soak, Sprout, and Dehydrate Nuts, Beans, and Seeds a few days ago. The next logical step would be to make delicious cheese crackers out of those seeds, now wouldn’t it?

So here’s my White Cheddar and Chive Cracker recipe. So delectable! http://www.ournourishingroots.com/2011/11/03/white-cheddar-and-chive-crackers-grain-free/
