Welcome and PLEASE read below before you link up as this is a REAL FOOD carnival, and very different from others you may have joined in on.
I LOVE WEDNESDAYS!
It’s that crazy time of the week when you entice us with your links and comments to go check out your blogs and your great REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY tips and ideas or recipes! (Visit that link if you’re new and want to learn more about this blog carnival.) Remember, if you’re a blogger, you’ll draw some good traffic to your site by participating! (This is how I built up my traffic in the beginning, and don’t miss my tips below.)
CAN YOU HELP? (6 rules and tips!) (Note: here’s where those of you who are new will want to read carefully, thank you!)
1. It’s not easy for me to catch them all on my own, and I’d really like everyone to play fair, so if you see any posts that don’t link back to this post (blog carnival etiquette you know!), can you email me please? Kelly@KellytheKitchenKop.com. If you don’t know how, I explain it at this REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY link. (I hate playing hardball and removing links, so let’s all be good to the others who are bringing more traffic to your blogs with their links by doing the same, OK?)
2. Also, PLEASE let me know if you see a recipe posted that is blatantly not Real Food. Someone who is striving and on the journey is one thing (as we all are), but if it’s really bad (canned bread, meat substitutes, Velveeta, margarine/vegetable oil, Egg Beaters, unfermented soy/tofu or any other fake food), please tell me so I can remove it. (If I’ve removed your post, I hope there are no hard feelings, but people come to this post for Real Food ideas, and I don’t want to disappoint.)
3. I hope you’ll retweet and stumble this post and also any sites you visit – this will get more exposure to all of us, thank you!
4. Please don’t link up to your post where you’re writing about something as an affiliate if I’m already an affiliate for the same thing, OK? That includes giveaway posts. (Thank you for understanding!)
5. Want more traffic at your blog? if you’re linking up and hoping for more traffic to your blog, can I make a suggestion for how to boost your traffic? Besides just adding your link to the Mr. Linky doohicky, if you also comment and include just ONE interesting sentence to grab the readers attention AND a link to that specific post, you’ll get more hits for sure, at least from me anyway. I don’t often have time to go through every single link (although I know a lot of people do), but one thing I always do is read the comments. If there’s a sentence that grabs my interest AND a link to get me there easily, I’m much more apt to visit!
6. Don’t have a blog? We still want to hear from you! Please leave your tips or recipes in the comments.
Thank you!
You’re up, and we can’t wait to see your stuff!

We’ve all gone through the process of re-evaluating what we put into our bodies and choosing Real Food. Have you gone through that process with what you put ONTO your body? You need to. Check out this post!
I took our Thursday chicken dinner and really tried to take it up a notch both in terms of making it look pretty and adding some fun spices. I am learning in culinary school how to make the food look pretty and balanced using different colors, textures and flavors. Read my post to see how I did it!

Hi Kelly, thanks for hosting. I wrote about a tax that Denmark just imposed on products made with saturated fat. Supposedly to increase lifespan. Where they got that conclusion I have no idea.
I read about that tax on Natural News.com and basically they’re taxing avocados, eggs, coconut oil, nuts, butter, and chocolate. These are all foods I eat regularly for my health…LOL Glad I don’t live in Denmark, but afraid that the idea will spark our government leaders here to do the same thing…possibly as a way to pay off our national debt?
They don’t even mention trans fats, interestified fats, and processed foods loaded with chemical dyes, refined sugars and carbs and fillers. Guess they consider them health food? LOL
Hi Kelly,
I was just certified last weekend by Dr. Natasha Campbell Mc Bride as a GAPS practitioner. My blog will focus often on issues pertaining to GAPS. If your readers are interested, I invite them to take a look.
The Fluoride Action Network is promoting a petition for the White House to end all federal support of water fluoridation programs. If they get 5,000 signatures by October 26th, the White House will review the petition, forward it to the appropriate policy expert, and issue an official response.
The petition has over 3,000 signatures already, but problems with the White House website makes it difficult to sign it. I included a link on my site that has detailed instructions if you run into problems.

Thanks to everyone who signs the petition! If you care about the fluoride issue, please promote the petition on your blogs and social media, too!

If you’re cutting out grains from your diet and are gluten free, here is a recipe for you. Pasta Primavera (without the pasta).
I remember when I did the Atkins diet to go low carb, I used spaghetti squash instead of pasta, but this recipe works just as well.
Hope you all enjoy it!! As always, thanks so much Kelly for hosting!!
I’ve posted a recipe for chicken liver pate. It’s from the Nourishing Traditions cookbook, but I wanted to remind everyone of this recipe as its easy to make, super tasty and of course very good for you because of the liver.

How does #81 have anything to do with real food?
I’m wondering why so many of the recipes lately are vegan based? And, too, there are many dairy-free recipes. There are forums and blogs devoted to those things. I want real food recipes not recipes which leave out meat and dairy. What’s up with that?
I agree. I think there are so many people who just link up to get traffic to their blog without even caring what this blog link up is dedicated to. Usually it is the ones who link up their recipe to about 30 blog hops. You are right, obviously there are plenty of other blogs devoted to recipes, this one should be only for real food.
Suzy,
I believe real food does not only mean recipes with meat and dairy. It means food that is organic, not genetically modified, minimally processed, chemical free, no substitute foods (like fake eggs or margarine, or high fructose corn syrup) but instead real eggs from pastured chickens, real butter and pure maple syrup and raw honey. It can include dairy and meat or it could just be a vegetable recipe. Basically, whether it’s vegan or has meat and dairy as long as it meets the requirements of what real food is, then it’s real food.
Oh and btw…I agree with you on #81. That’s one link that should be removed.
If it contains no meat and/or no dairy, then it’s probably vegetarian or vegan food. As stated, there are a number of recipe forums for people who wish to eat that way. To me (and possibly to others) real food constitutes something from all food groups, not just two of those. If I want just a veggie dish, I can find those online or in recipe books. But when the TITLE of the recipe says “Vegan Corn Chowder” or whatever, it doesn’t belong HERE where we discuss real food because the term vegan indicates no dairy or meat involved, no?
I should clarify, personally I don’t think all recipes have to include meat and dairy in them to be real food. So I agree with you, Roseann. Especially when the recipe highlights seasonal or local ingredients and someone may have an allergy or sensitivity. But I agree with D in that I think if they are not using all real ingredients then I think there are plenty of other blogs they can post to.
I know I have many recipes on my blog that do not have all real food ingredients (even though that is what I am striving for) so I will not link up that week.
I agree as well that only REAL ingredients should be used in all recipes, whether they are vegan or have meat and dairy in them. Recipes that I find online or in cookbooks that don’t have “real” ingredients in them, I substitute and put the real ingredients in them. Let’s say a recipe calls for margarine, I will substitute the margarine and use butter instead. For example, the Low Carb Pumpkin Pie I posted last Wednesday originally called for sucralose to be used, but I use stevia instead. Substitute foods only are substituting for the real thing, so I just replace them with the real thing. I like to call it reverse substitution..LOL
I like that term “reverse substitution” You should d a blog post on that!
I agree that the word “vegan” shouldn’t be here, but that recipe itself looked fine so I left it.
I removed the giveaway one (grrrr, not sure what it had to do with real food, either), but as you can see it often takes me a while to get to these comments, so if you guys ever find one that needs to be removed, please email me, OK? Thanks!
Kelly
I just wanted to add that I always appreciate seeing dairy-free recipes on real food sites being the traditional foods, real foodie, and dairy-allergic person that I am. =-)
Thanks you once more for Real Food Wednesdays! I shared my Roasted Apple and Carrot Salad today! Have a lovely week!

This week I shared a post on how to make a ginger bug, the starter for naturally fermented ginger ale. I love the idea of ginger ale, and love the taste of ginger, but don’t like most commercial ginger ale, sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. Yuck.
So, I decided to try and make my own. So far, so good!

Tired of eggs for breakfast?? a new {delicious and surprising} way to get protein in first thing in the morn:cupcakes!
Hi Kelly! This week I’m sharing how I accidentally learned how to render chicken fat — AKA, schmaltz! Love that word.
I have a question though — I’ve noticed some bloggers are linking to multiple posts, I don’t think I realized that was allowed! Do you have a set policy on how many links each of us can put up on RFW?
Hi Emily,
I don’t really have a policy on it, but I’d sure think that a couple are enough…….what do you think?
(Love that word, too!)
I am sharing a Vegetable Beef Soup that we just love here. It’s the perfect time of year for it! I make it in big batches and we eat it for days. It freezes well, but if you plan to freeze it, don’t add any egg noodles. Enjoy!
