Real Food Wednesday 7/27/2011

It’s that crazy time of the week when you entice us with your links and comments to go check out your blogs and your great REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY tips and ideas or recipes! (Visit that link if you’re new and want to learn more about this blog carnival.) Remember, if you’re a blogger, you’ll draw some good traffic to your site by participating! (This is how I built up my traffic in the beginning.)

CAN YOU HELP?

1. It’s not easy for me to catch them all on my own, and I’d really like everyone to play fair, so if you see any posts that don’t link back to this post (blog carnival etiquette you know!), can you email me please? Kelly@KellytheKitchenKop.com. If you don’t know how, I explain it at this REAL FOOD WEDNESDAY link. (I hate playing hardball and removing links, so let’s all be good to the others who are bringing more traffic to your blogs with their links by doing the same, OK?)

2. Also, PLEASE let me know if you see a recipe posted that is blatantly not Real Food. Someone who is striving and on the journey is one thing (as we all are), but if it’s really bad (canned bread, meat substitutes, Velveeta, margarine, Egg Beaters, unfermented soy or any other fake food), please tell me so I can remove it. (If I’ve removed your post, I hope there are no hard feelings, but people come to this post for Real Food ideas, and I don’t want to disappoint.)

3. I hope you’ll retweet and stumble this post and also any sites you visit – this will get more exposure to all of us, thank you!

4. Don’t have a blog? We still want to hear from you! Please leave your tips or recipes in the comments.

Thank you!

You’re up, and we can’t wait to see your stuff!

Kelly, I entered two posts this morning. This is a story that deserves to go viral. A Houston family was in a car accident. The parents were killed, the surviving children are seriously injured and being cared for by their Aunt and Uncle.

Read how some friends came to their aid with bone broth, a nourishing food and what we all can do to support this family by sharing our hearts!

I’m asking for help in making a list of great recipes for times when it’s just too hot to cook. I want fellow bloggers to send me links to their recipes that don’t require the oven and minimize time on the stovetop. Grilled recipes and crock pot recipes are great!
I will gladly link back to you site with your recipe submissions. You can send as many as you like. :-)

I’ve shared links to recipes for:
- cheesy beef and vegetable soup that is reminiscent of canned soup but so much tastier
- basil salmon salad that requires no cooking and is a wonderful summer meal

Thanks for hosting, Kelly. This week I linked up a post on my great grain ordering adventure. A couple of weeks ago I had nearly two tons of grains, legumes and other bulk food items delivered to my home for a group “stocking up” order.

Last week I ventured into the world of shrub syrups and made a yellow plum shrub. It’s basically fruit and sugar (both organic, preferably) that macerates for 1-3 days. It’s then drained and raw vinegar is added. It is reminiscent of kombucha in taste. It’s delicious mixed with sparkling water. It was popular in Colonial America but was left behind during the advent of industrial food processes.

Thanks for hosting, Kelly!

Sorry, I seem to have made an error – number 70 is my name. I was meant to add the name of the recipe which is number 71, unsure how to remove number 70. Please accept my apologies, still quite new to linkies.

Did anyone catch the reference to “Parkay” margarine in the oatmeal cookie recipe? I suppose one could change the margarine to butter and highly improve the taste and texture. It was an old recipe redone here so maybe the reference to margarine is ok. ??

Thanks again, Kelly! Today I am linking to a blog post about a developmentally disabled man we are trying to help to learn to eat better. He is unable to read and cannot cook as he once started a fire while trying to prepare a meal. It’s a tough case and any ideas would be appreciated!

Here’s a great superfood raw brownie recipe. Only three ingredients, basically, and no work at all. And they are very good, too. I originally got the link from another e-newsletter, so I’ll post that link here and it will give you two new sites to check out!

I should have mentioned with this last post, the link for Julie’s web site doesn’t come until the end of the video. I think it’s http://www.juliemorris.net but not positive (the mind goes, ya know).

Also I should make mention of the fact right here and now that I am sick to death of the term superfood. Makes it sound like Superman’s kryptonite or something. Any healthy food you eat (if you can still find some) is a superfood in my book.

This wee I’m sharing a salad I created to use up a few items in the fridge, plus fresh garden tomatoes. It tastes like a BLT without the bread and lettuce.
