New scoop! I told you Friday about Ann Marie’s new cooking class called, “Surf & Turf“, where she’ll show you how to cook all those nutrient-dense proteins that are so important for good health! Whether you follow the low-carb or paleo lifestyle, or just want help cooking grass-fed steaks and more, you’ll love this class. (More about low-carbing it below.) Wait ’til you see the cute video she put together to show you what the class is all about: SURF & TURF. I’ll be doing a giveaway THIS WEEK, so stay tuned.
Guess what Real Foodie bloggers? There’s a new blog carnival over at the Healthy Home Economist called, “Monday Mania”, where you can share your most popular, most commented on, most anything about a favorite post at your blog from the previous week. I hope you’ll join in because Sarah’s nervous that no one will come to her party. Let’s show her the Real Food looooove!
My awesome online friend, Jen, keeps my Monday Mix-Ups interesting. She emailed this last week: “Yeesh!!! ‘Nabisco to double their whole grains in crackers.’ Another one: ‘New “plus size” clothing line for children from a British retailer for UK kids.’ OH!!! And to top it off… those two news stories were aired back to back!!! Don’t they get it???????” In case you don’t know, Jen is wondering why they’re not putting it together that too much GRAIN is the obesity culprit, and not saturated fats as we’ve all been brainwashed into believing. Read more about healthy fats and dieting.
Speaking of dieting, I can’t believe it, but I am now convinced that the conclusions from this post are right: Former Aerobics Instructor is Now Anti-Cardio. Well, I guess I wouldn’t say I’m totally anti-cardio (and she’ll probably clarify that in her part 2 post as well), but I certainly don’t think it’s as important for weight loss as I used to, not even close. (I’d love to hear all your thoughts on this one, readers!)
I’ve linked to this video in a roundabout way before, but when my friend, Karen, sent it to me I thought I should bring it to your attention again. It’s from 2007 with Andrew Weil, Mehmet Oz, & Gary Taubes – what a threesome, eh? Some great scoop on dieting here: Here’s more from Dr. Andrew Weil.
My glasses are smudgey. For some reason when I saw “natural bug repellent” I thought it read, “natural blog repellent.” I clicked out of curiosity and was set straight right away.
I am crossing my fingers about Ann Marie’s giveaway! Since we are an SCD family, none of the other recent cooking classes really have applied to us. And because of my recent bill from the dentist, my husband has absolutely forbidden me to spend any more money on anything besides the bare necessities for months!
This is my first time commenting, Kelly, but I must tell you how much I love, love, love you and your website! The first time I found you I stayed awake all night reading your previous posts! Thanks for all the time and effort you give!
I’m pretty anti-cardio myself. I prefer to recommend starting with a balanced real food diet, then adding some resistance exercise a couple times a week. The trouble with cardio is that it does burn fat–so the body naturally wants to store more fat because it thinks that’s the fuel it needs to hang onto. It’s always storing some extra fat in preparation for that next cardio workout! That also means you generally have to keep doing more cardio or you’ll start gaining–and this really exhausts your adrenals.
Exercises that build lean body mass, however, are metabolically healing and will encouraging the body to burn fat even when you’re *not* exercising. And if you really, really want to do cardio try interval training for 20 minutes three times a week. Any more than that is overkill in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the anti-cardio link! I get so overwhelmed thinking that I have to do 45 minutes of cardio a day just to lose the extra weight my body is holding on to. I’ve changed the way I eat and cook recently, and that alone has gotten my weight loss kick-started!

Thanks for posting the video.
I totally agree with the cardio thing! My husband trained for half ironman last summer and gained 30 pounds.
