“Wild Fermentation represents not only an effort to bring back from oblivion these treasured processes, but also a road map to a better world, a world of healthy people and equitable economies, a world that especially values those iconoclastic, free-thinking individuals—so often labeled misfits—uniquely qualified to perform the alchemy of fermented foods.”

Fallon and Katz have both had a huge impact on the way that I eat. Indeed, it is their/your/our good old ways and modern science that underlay much of what I try to share from day to day. I know, some days are better than others :-)

OK, here’s the deal. I feel strongly enough about the healing and nourishing power of traditional foods (that which Michael Pollan describes as food that our great grandmothers would recognize) that I’m going to send a copy of either Fallon’s Nourishing Traditions or Katz’ Wild Fermentation to one of you. But first, you have to go on a little scavenger hunt..

Hi Kelly! Thanks so much for hosting this carnival. Hey, I wanted to let you know that there is a new Linky program out there. It’s called MckLinky and I’ve been using it as I’ve had so much trouble with Mr. Linky. Just go to mcklinky.com to check it out. Have a great one!

Mom2my,

You’ve got me curious with your mush…………I’ll have to try that!

Thanks for the tip about Mcklinky, but here’s why I’ll most likely stick with Mr. Linky: first, now that I use “easy linkys”, I haven’t had any trouble at all. 2nd, the customer service is AMAZING. He’s a one-man show trying to deal with all the glitches that might come up here and there and he has often worked hard to help me get things on track. (And he answers emails and help requests usually within seconds!) I really appreciate that kind of service and it’s worth paying a little bit for. :) Just my two cents…

Thanks for joining Real Food Wednesday today!

Hey, so thrilled to participate after being absent last week. This week’s post is a follow up to the ProFood document that a bunch of sustainable food bloggers have ascribed to. I talk about how 21st century business practices will allow for sustainable models to be built into them.

Hi, Kelly! I’ve been reading your blog (especially Real Food Wednesday) for quite a while (I’m addicted!) and just started my own. I thought I’d jump right in and start participating in the carnivals. My post is about my Easy Crockpot Stock. Takes about 15 minutes of work and 24 hours of waiting. That’s it!

My first time joining in! It’s blueberry season here and I posted a recipe for Soaked Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins using the local, organically grown blueberries we picked over the holiday. Can’t wait to go back out to the farm and pick some more!

This is my second week participating – I love all of the ideas and different perspectives on food. Thank you, Kelly, for hosting.

Lots of sweet, ripe watermelon in TX right now so I made a granita and then threw it in the food processor. Also, linked to my post is a guest blog I did about eating out with food allergies…it was up on Monday but the conversation was interesting to say the least. I am grateful for all the work everyone is doing here to educate people about eating good food.

My body doesn’t like summer. This year I’m working on feeding it light, refreshing, local and in-season foods that will help it (and my state of mind) lighten up!

I posted about a news clip that showed how detrimental fast food can be after just one fast food meal. This clip shows a before meal blood sample and an after meal sample. It is a must see.

This is my first week participating in the Wednesday blog carnival, though I have been reading it for some time now. I recently made a sourdough starter and wrote about my success using it the first time – I just made another loaf last night and it was even better the second time around!

Looking forward to reading all the recipes and other info posted!

Great participation this week!
We were so thrilled to see Will Allen and Growing Power Farm featured in the New York Times Magazine (and on Food Renegade’s blog) that we couldn’t help blogging about it. If anybody knows about real food… produced for REAL people, it’s Will Allen.

And we’ve also got a great post on REAL Wisconsin Bratwurst going on over at Burp!… don’t miss it!

Thank God so many people are waking up to the disaster that is Low-Fat eating. I lost my ability to heal (but I’m on the mend now) because I ate virtually NO FAT for over 2 years in an effort to lose weight. Instead, I lost my health. I want to save others from making this same mistake. Your blog carnivals are helping to get the word out about the benefits of the nourishing traditional way of eating. Thank you for hosting!!
