Grab your coffee or tea, here we go…

  • It feels great to be home with Kent & the kids, but I had such fun last week in California!  If you haven’t already and there’s nothing else to do, you can read about it.  I ate two more oysters the day I left, and I scooped them out myself this time!  I could enjoy the salty flavor more, since this time I wasn’t as worried about how it looked or the slimy texture in my mouth.  Walking through the Santa Monica farm market, meeting the vendors, many who are Ann Marie’s friends (who are all so nice that they now feel like my friends), and seeing all that beautiful fresh produce that we get for only such a short time here in Michigan, made me so envious!  I stuffed four loaves of Jack Bezian’s bread into my suitcase and they’re already almost gone, even our teen loved them.

  • Have you ever thought of starting your own blog? If so, you’re crazy, but you probably know that you don’t get far before you need to choose a theme, which basically is a design for how you want your web pages to look and what you want them to be able to do.  If you’re close to that stage by any chance, think about using the Thesis theme.  It is perfect for anyone from the most technical, down to a complete blubbering web idiot like myself.  You don’t have to learn CSS in order to make this work (if you haven’t heard of CSS, you are SO lucky), and the new version 1.5 has more upgrades that make it even easier to use.  It’s even all set up for SEO (that’s “Search Engine Optimization” for all you normal people).  Just something to think about if any of this applies to you, and yes, I’d get a small commission if you choose to buy from that link – if so, thanks!  If you’re smart and a blog is the last thing you want to do, then stop yawning and move on to the next one…

Hi Kelly, I just have to ask about the bread. I really want sourdough bread, but it looks almost impossible to find around here in NW Indiana. Have you ever had any of the Grindstone Bakery bread? If so how does it compare to Jack’s. I am really trying to avoid baking it myself. Not ready for that yet. We still eat whole grain bread(organic). My son has a tiny brown spot on his tooth, so I am really trying to avoid phytic acid now. He does drink raw milk, eats grass fed beef, Kerry Gold butter, pastured eggs, and just started about a month ago giving him the fermented clo and butter oil. I had my friend come over the other day and she sauted some liver and onions in butter. My three year old son ate it with no problem. I ate a pretty large sized piece. It actually wasn’t bad and I can see hiding it in other things. It did not have much flavor, just the texture was a little different. I just thought I would share that with you. Oh, and are you going to Wise Traditions conference in November in Shaumburg? I really enjoy your blog! God bless!

Lola, YES, I’m going – are you going? I’d love to meet you and any readers who will be there!

Sorry, I haven’t had grindstone bread. More on sourdough breads here on the blog soon, though.

Thanks for the liver encouragement! :)

Thanks Kelly! I went back and read all the articles. You said he is thinking about shipping. Well mabey if we all make some phone calls to him it will convince him to. That is promising. Our Trader Joes bread here does not say sourdough culture on it, so I think it may be fake. Whole Foods has a sourdough bread made with culture, but it has some soy flour (it is one of the last ingredients). The first ingredient is whole wheat flour and the second is wheat flour. Do you think this is a better choice than a whole grain bread(organic) from a local bakery? We can’t give bread up quite yet, but I don’t want to mess up my kids health either. I am going to try my hardest to go to the Wise Traditions Conference. I already made sure my husband wasn’t working! Hope to meet all you on Real Food Media!

I’d say that a sourdough with a tiny bit of soy flour probably would be better than a more whole grain loaf that is not sourdough…but others may disagree.

Can’t wait to meet you this fall!
