Nina Planck is so cool. Not only did she send me an advanced copy of her new book, due out sometime in April, but she also sent me THREE copies to use for giveaways! AND on top of that, she also has offered to send signed bookplates to the winners!
Get this! She just gave me the OK to tell you her fun news: she’s expecting twins in August!
I’m partway into “Real Food for Mother and Baby: The Fertility Diet, Eating for Two, and Baby’s First Foods“, and it is SOOOOO GOOD. (I also loved her first book, “Real Food: What to Eat and Why
“.)
- Read an excerpt about heart disease
- Read an excerpt about infertility and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)
HERE’S HOW TO WIN ONE OF THE THREE BOOKS IN THE GIVEAWAY, AND THE AUTOGRAPHED BOOKPLATE FROM NINA:
- To begin, go to Nina Planck’s site and sign up for her email newsletters, which I love, by the way. And she doesn’t send them out all the time, so your inbox won’t be overwhelmed. (Click on “get news from Nina”.) Tell me that you did so in the comments. (If you’re already signed up, just say so in the comments.)
- For TWO ENTRIES: Post about the giveaway AND link back to this page on your blog. Comment below with the link.
- For TWO ENTRIES: If you posted at your blog for this past Real Food Wednesday and linked back to my blog, comment HERE with the link.
- For ONE ENTRY: Nina said to tell you this: ‘I love real food stories. Send me a picture of your healthy baby. Tell me what you ate during pregnancy and what the baby eats now. Winners will appear in her Real Food Baby Gallery and get an autographed copy of Real Food for Mother and Baby – out in April.’ Send your pictures or stories to Info@NinaPlanck.com.
- For ONE ENTRY: Subscribe in a reader or Subscribe via e-mail to my blog. Leave a comment below telling me that you signed up. You will also get an entry if you already subscribe — make sure to leave a comment!
- For ONE ENTRY: Follow me on Twitter AND tweet about the giveaway. Leave a comment telling me that you followed & tweeted.
- For ONE ENTRY: Friend me on Facebook and post about the giveaway on your Facebook status. Leave a comment below telling me that you friended me and updated your status.
- For ONE ENTRY: Email 5 friends about the giveaway. Leave a comment below telling me that you did. (Honor system on this one!)
- For ONE ENTRY: Stumble this post and leave me a comment telling me that you did.
JUST TO BE CLEAR… TO ENTER THE GIVEAWAY:
- First sign up for Nina’s newsletter
- And THEN tell me in the comments at THIS POST ONLY which of the above things you chose to gain additional entries. (You can tell me all the different ways you entered in the same comment.)
- A total of 10 entries are possible. Anyone who does all 10 will get an extra entry! Don’t forget though…you guessed it, you have to tell me you did so in the comments!
Questions? Comment below.

Congrats to Nina. I have twin boys and it’s a wild ride!
Hi Kelly, I signed up to receive your e-mails and I entered my info. at Nina’s site to receive her news. “Real Food” was the first book I read that got me going in the Real, Nourishing food direction. I’ve recommended this book to everyone I know and gave several copies away for Christmas! On a side note, I’ve been trying and trying to get my hands on her Farmer’s Market Cookbook. Any ideas?
Margaret, did you try just clicking on the Facebook link above? If that doesn’t work, my name on Facebook is
Kelly KitchenKop.
DeAnn, did you try her website? Amazon? If not, let me know and I’ll ask her for you. Or you could email her at the address listed in this post, she’ll respond.
Susan, sorry to have irritated you. I figured since Nina gave us the books for the giveaway, the least I could do was to send people to her site. And most people who read my site would love her stuff even more.
Thanks for entering everyone!
Kelly,

Kelly, I subscribed to Nina’s newsletter and have picked up her Real Food book to read. I am about to become a grandma for the first time in late September and I would love to get her new book for my daughter! Real food changed my health 7 years ago and I am a total believer! Thanks!
Mary
Hi Kelly,
I’ve been waiting so long to see this book! I love Nina’s way of explaining what is good nutrition – so inviting and non-threatening, with a common-sense attitude, backed by an interesting upbringing (not to mention, the unfortunate but enlightening experience of not doing well on the faddish vegetarian diet at one point).
1) I’m already subscribed to Nina Planck’s newsletter for at least the past year or two, not sure if that counts as an entry).
2) I posted about the new book on my blog, www dot againstthegrainblog dot com .
and I linked to the book on Amazon (form your site) and linked to to your blog.
5) I subscribed to your blog via Google Reader.
Kelly, I am possibly doing this wrong, and I’m sorry about it. So far I am comment #30 and #33. You may want to go ahead and delete those old comments and I’ll just put everything into this one. Sorry about the hassle.
My entry info:
1) I signed up for Nina’s newsletter to be sent to katie at dekabyte dot com
2) I’m subscribed to your blog via email at the above email address.
3) I blogged about your giveaway here: http://whatdidkatiedid.blogspot.com/2009/03/real-food-for-mother-and-baby-book.html
4) I friended you at facebook, and updated my status.
Thanks for the entries and the chance to win. More importantly, thanks so much for the great blog! I am a new reader, and looking forward to future posts.

Hi there,
I would love that book! I have a 4 month old, WAP-baby. He was supposed to be a homebirth but I had him so fat and happy (9lb – 2oz.) that he wouldn’t come out on his own. We had to transport for a C-section. : ( We are happily breast-feeding now. : )
I have signed up for your blog, her newsletter, tried to friend you on Facebook but can’t find you, will email her our story and a pic and have emailed 5 friends about this give-away.
Blessings!

Kelly–
I’ve been reading your blog for a while and just signed up for Nina’s. Thanks for the good food lead.
Kelly,
I added you to my reader and signed up for Nina’s newsletter.
I love your site!
Also, I didn’t know where to ask, so I will just do it here: I would love to read your thoughts on soy. I know you take Shaklee (and so do I–I am a distributor) and I find their soy protein a great way for me to get enough protein in. But, of course, I hear conflicting reports on soy. Love to know what you have to say.
Just signed up for the newsletter!
I signed up for her newsletter, and I follow you in Google reader.
I have a 5-month-old and am looking for a good real-food resource. Thanks for the giveaway!

You guys are so fun, I love how excited you are, and so am I – I can’t wait to figure out the winner tomorrow when I get up! (I’ll announce it Monday.)
P.S. The contest is only open a few more minutes, until 11:59 pm Eastern time! (But I’m not staying up, if I can help it, to put a “contest closed” note on the post…)
Katie, you make me laugh out loud.
Kristen, I’m not a fan of soy for the reasons in this recent post by Ann Marie: http://www.cheeseslave.com/2009/02/16/illinois-state-prison-jail-food-soy-diet-thyroid-disorders/
Specifically, regarding the Shaklee soy protein, I’ve never been a fan of that either, or any powdered “protein shakes” because they just don’t seem like a natural way to get protein…from a powder. It just sounds too processed and denatured to me. (Back to that common sense factor that I like to go by.) However, for a natural, super healthy “protein drink”, try something like this egg nog:
