- Check out my other new post today about the very interesting topic of…pork fat! LOL! Thanks to a reader friend, Karen for this post: “I took this picture and thought to myself ‘You'd NEVER see this in the parking lot of the grocery stores in the Bay Area. It’s so politically incorrect!'” Find out: Is Lard Really Good For Us?!
- I’m so excited to share these FREE real food handouts/cheat sheets with you based on the information in Nina Planck's books:
- REAL FOOD PREGNANCY DIET HANDOUT
- REAL FIRST BABY FOODS HANDOUT
- Would you like to hear what kind of “self-talk” goes on inside my brain sometimes? Don’t worry, I won’t share too much with you, but here’s one thought that screams through there often, “If only I were as good at following my own nutritional advice as I am at jabbering about it, I’d be really healthy!”
- Also see my related posts from a while back, “I’m really not a food snob!” and “My Dark Secrets”.
- I made this crazy delicious beef burgundy recipe the other day from Nourished Kitchen – we were hoping that it would taste as dreamy as it smelled while baking…and it certainly did!
Have a great week!

Thanks for those cheat sheets! I feel really confident about eating well for myself but am afraid that one day when i’m pregnant I’ll listen to the old advice for fear of messing up. It’s great to see what Nina has to say about all of this!

I rendered lard for the first time about a month ago. At the time the closest I could get to ‘pastured’ was from a local butcher who processed local pigs raised by farmers. Just last week we took our own pig in for processing. While we didn’t have ideal situations for it to be pastured, it was raised to the best of our current ability. I requested the fat back and kidney fat for rendering. Before this I had rendered grass fed beef tallow. It’s delicious and I think I actually prefer the tallow. Although, I have made pie crusts with the lard and oh YUM! so good! Death to vegetable oil!!!! LOL!

Kelly,
I have to say it is reassuring to read the balance in Ann Marie’s post.
I think it is much more important to concentrate on the whole foods diet and not get caught up in all the other areas. What a great message for “rookies” that might just be starting out on this journey. Also what a timely reminder for all of us that have been on this path for some time. Especially those of us that have children who may grumble frequently about the food choices they find at home. I am not saying that we should compromise and have junk just to make them happy.
But if they occasionally have other types of snacks we should be reassured that they have a good foundation of nutritional health already.
