It was exciting to see the great response to my online survey, and learning that many of you are eager to take the next step in your Real Food journey!  (Do you like that logo Kal made me?)

Coming Soon…

Today I wanted to give you a sneak peek at what’s coming soon in my Real Food Online Rookie Class.  As more pieces are finished, I get more excited about the content I’ll be offering, because I really think it will be a big help to all the beginners out there.  How I wish there had been such a class when I was just starting out over six years ago and muddling my way through.

Not Just For Rookies!

Not only that, I also think it will be very helpful even if you are already well on the Real Food journey, because everyone still has friends or loved ones who still aren’t “there yet”, and we wish we knew how to best teach them about Real Foods.  This class can help you with that, too.

Not yet!

While I’d love to get this class out to you now, I want you to know that most important to me first is making sure I’m offering you good value and content.  Hopefully it won’t be too much longer ‘til I can launch.  (This is hardly a big deal in the scheme of life, but if you could shoot up a few prayers for me, I’d appreciate it.  It’s not easy pulling any of this off, along with all the everyday blogging and being a Mom, too.  But I know it will help so many of you!)

Real Food Ingredient GuideDo you want to be the first to know when the class will launch?

Go to this sign up post to learn more about the newsletter, or just go to the end of this post to sign up and for a chance to win a Real Food Ingredient Guide.  You’ll then be on my “first to know” list!

I want it to be fun!

I promise to grab your attention and use different ways to teach you, just as you told me you wanted in the online survey I took recently.  I’m also shooting for that fine line between offering professional, quality content, yet keeping it real and fun and trying not be too anal about how my house looks, the kitchen remodel we need, how quiet the kids are, or how perfect my delivery is.  I want to help you understand that eating better and feeding your family healthier meals isn’t about being perfect, Lord knows I’m a good one to demonstrate that!

I also plan to let you hear from others besides just me, because we all know that there’s a lot I don’t know!  We’ll even take a few “field trips” to visit some experts.

Basically my goal will be to provide solid, easy to understand information in a way that will hold your attention and help all of you who are in the beginning stages of your Real Food journey (or to help you if you know someone else who is at that stage).  We’ll go week by week and get you through the basics (and beyond) in manageable chunks, so as not to overwhelm you!

Here’s the Sneak Peek, but keep in mind that the below descriptions are in their super-condensed form – I had to be careful not to give away all the surprises I have planned.  :)

FREE Intro Class:

When you sign up for the Real Food Online Rookie Class, you’ll get access to the FREE intro class which will include…

  • A little more about me (I always like to know more about the person who is teaching me something, maybe because I’m nosy…?), including a short video with a look around my kitchen and our home.  (I also like to see the surroundings when someone is talking to me via video.  I’m very visual and wonder dumb things like, “What’s over to the right of where she’s standing…?”)
  • An explanation of what the whole class will be be based on:  Anne Sergeant’s simple philosophy of good nutrition.  “A healthy diet is like a three-legged stool:  Getting the bad stuff out; getting the good stuff in; and properly preparing your foods for nutrient density.”
  • More basics including “How do you know who to believe when it comes to health & nutrition?”, “WHY should we eat Real Food?”, “What is the 80/20 plan and how can it help us to relax a little about food?”

Here is a little about what I’ll cover in the classes:

  • Getting the bad stuff out : I’ll take you to the store and show you how to read labels, avoid the junk, and find better options.  I can’t wait to show you all the stuff I used to buy regularly.  I may even reveal areas where I still have a ways to go…
  • Get the good stuff in – I’ll show you how simple it can be to make super nourishing, REAL FOOD recipes that are packed with nutrients.  (Including a demonstration of how I make my homemade soaked bread recipe.) I’ll show you how I get the fermented cod liver oil down and if I can clear it with Kent I may even give you a peek at how well two of our kids take it for us, too.
  • Lots of mealtime help! We’ll go through each meal (and snacks!) to talk about tips, ideas, recipes, ways to avoid fast food, etc.  I’ll share what I know and I hope you’ll share your ideas with us in the forum that I’ll be setting up.
  • Farm visits! I can’t wait to take you to meet my farm friends so you can see where we get our life-giving farm-fresh foods.  QUESTION for you:  I’ll be interviewing the farmers where we get our milk, our meat and our produce.  Is there anything you’d like me to ask them?!
  • Natural lifestyle issues: Here we’ll cover all that other stuff that you may wonder about that has nothing to do with food.  Usually when someone is thinking more about better nutrition, environmental toxins become a concern as well.
  • Real Food tips for saving money will also be discussed.

A possible bonus class if there’s enough interest:

If enough of you tell me you’d be interested in this, I’ll offer a bonus class (or a separate class) to talk about overcoming infertility, the optimal pregnancy diet, vaccine issues, breastfeeding, feeding solids, co-sleeping, etc.

Let me know your thoughts on that!

HERE’S HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER (THANK YOU!):

BTW, after you fill out the below form, don’t forget that to finish the process you’ll need to follow the confirmation link in the email you’ll receive. If you can’t see the form below, you may need to turn off your add blocker.  To read more about why I’m hoping you’ll sign up and how you’ll benefit, too, go to the newsletter sign-up post.

I would absolutely be interested in the bonus stuff you mentioned. I struggle with infertility, and I absolutely believe that food is medicine. I just have a hard time implementing it.

I am so excited for the rookie class! This is what I need, I just hope it starts before I lose all of my momentum. Thanks for all the hard work you do for us Kelly, you care so much and it shows.

This sounds so exciting! I hope it is something I’ll be able to participate in!

I’m VERY interested in “feeding solids.” I have 5 kiddos… and each time have problems in this area because of their sensitivities. My youngest is about to turn 1. She only eats sweet potatoes, organic rice cereal, organic oatmeal, and 2 organic baby foods (peas & brown rice and a chicken & sweet potato dinner). Any fruits cause a major diaper rash. Some other foods do, too, like carrots, avocados, peas by themselves… so I’m always wondering what I can give her. She’s been very healthy… no antibiotics… she nursed exclusively til about 9 or 10 months.

So as she’s about to turn 1, I’m wondering if I should try giving her raw cow’s milk or giving her rice milk like I have my others (before we knew of the wonderful benefits of raw cow’s milk… or where to get it). They had problems with cow’s milk… but not the raw milk. BUT we have a son who still drinks rice milk only because of his eczema… but that is another story.

Speaking of rice milk… what do you think? I know it doesn’t have the good fat, but is it as horrible as soy milk? I hope not.

Sorry for the rambling. I really appreciate your blog!

Blessings,
Melinda =0)

Hi Melinda and everyone,

I don’t know a lot about rice milk, but I’d choose raw milk instead if I had a choice.

Melinda,

Rice milk isn’t really a nutrient dense food, but saying that I do give it my 2 boys sometimes too, as they can’t do milk (even raw). However, a healthier alternative is to make your own Almond milk from raw, organic almonds. I order my Almonds in bulk from California but they are pricey and we eat them so I haven’t gotten into making my own milk yet, but I did just buy a hemp bag to strain it through so I can try it.

The processed rice milk you buy is highly processed and high in sugar and usually has other additives from what I have read.

I have kids with food allergies, although not to the degree you mention. One thing that has helped is a good probiotic. A friend who is a nurse and Holistic Nutritionist told me to give the baby (he is now 10 months old) a single strain probiotic (baby bifida) as it is easier for their system. I give my other kids a stronger multistrain probiotic. Also, we do the cod liver oil and vitamin D supplements. If you are really struggling with the food issues and apparent allergies, try the GAPS diet. I know I need to go there with my family, but haven’t taken the plunge fully yet. We have tried to wean off a lot of the grains and other things, but not fully. Do a bit of research, there is a lot of info out there.

What about coconut milk? I’d personally try raw milk first, then coconut milk.

You can also mix the coconut milk with broth — super nutrient dense and very healing to the gut lining.

Robin, Sorry but I don’t know about cost per class yet, still figuring that out! The first intro class will be free to those who sign up, but sign ups won’t start until sometime in June.
Thanks for your interest and stay tuned! :)

Hi! I just found this website yesterday and I CANNOT stop reading everything! I’m in heaven!!! :) I have been looking for a healthier way to feed my kids ( all 6 of them) because I am sick of them being sick ALL the time!
It’s very interesting because 2 days ago I stumbled across the Weston Price website and spent all day reading that, and then just by chance I found this site the next day! I think someone is trying to tell me something! ;)
Anyway, I can’t wait for your Rookie class! I’m ready to make some big changes!!!
Thank you for all of the information you provide on here!
