Another month has FLOWN by and it's time to chat about how our kitchen goals went for May and share what your plans are for June. Leave a link if you've posted about this at your blog (and feel free to grab that picture), or you can just tell us all about it in the comments. But first, speaking of our kitchens, I have to show you something GROSS that Kent found buried way back in our downstairs refrigerator…you won't believe it. Keep in mind that my food conversion was only about 6 1/2 years ago, and we've had that frig for about 10 years. Here's the bitter proof of what I've told you many times about how often we ate fast food back then:
My son said, “Whoa, was it in the freezer or something?” I said, “Nope, it's just been in the frig for at least 6 years, some of it probably more like 8 or 10, and it still looks the same as the day we got it.” Yes, that is margarine that you see there, and high fructose corn syrup and MSG galore. Pretty sad, huh? Call me crazy, but I couldn't wait to show you guys that picture! 🙂 (Read how we easily avoid fast food these days. Although I have to admit that I'm in love with a certain sandwich at a certain fresh-food restaurant, it's their vegetarian one if you can believe it, but I checked it out online and it's really not bad at all!)
So tell us, are there any new recipes you’re planning to try? A new skill or cooking technique you want to figure out in your kitchen?
I'm trying to get myself motivated to fire up my sourdough starter again. I've had so many flops, my heart just isn't there yet. (The starter has been sitting in my frig for a long time so I'll bet I need to start over. Thankfully I have some sourdough starter handy.) Although my friend, Liz, brought me some of hers to try not long ago and it was gooood. She insists that it was super easy, but I've heard that before. 🙂
Also, I have a few new recipes to try from various sources that look mouth-watering yummy-licious and I'll post them if they're good. I've got a lot of great low-carb recipes from my sister that I've been meaning to get up for a while now, too, but I can't do that until I can get back in where all my post drafts are stored…the tech issues continue, but at least not as many of them today!
Lastly, I seem to have found myself without any homemade stock in my freezer, horror! If you use your stock in as many recipes as I do, you know how wrong this is. We're having chicken tonight and I'll fix that. I also have some beef bones in the freezer that I need to get going, too.
Your turn, let's see if your kitchen goals and plans are more exciting than mine, it won't take much! 🙂
