Organic Olive Oil Benefits
Karl is a friend of mine and his organic extra virgin olive oil is like nothing you've ever tasted (find out where to get it here along with a discount). He tells me that people will come to his table when he's at a conference and comment on how smooth it is, but they'll notice a finish with a light bitterness and little sting at the back of their throat. He says, “Perfect, that's just what you're supposed to experience. That is the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory component and it's the reason for all the health benefits!” (Have you seen What's the True Cause of Heart Disease?)
Here's a little olive oil lesson, in case you don't know this stuff already…
The phenol levels are what determine the potency of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in olive oil. If the phenol level is too high, it'll taste very bitter. If it's too low, there will be no health benefits. (That's why I never buy olive oil at the grocery store, and especially since many of them are mixed with heart-killer vegetable oils as a way for the company to cut costs!) This organic EVOO is tested by an independent lab and their phenol levels are at 270, which is the high end of the range of where they can be without being too strong and bitter. A high total phenol level combined with such a smooth taste is rare. Plus Karl hears stories ALL the time of people who start using his olive oil on their food regularly, or taking it right off a spoon, and they're able to go off their cholesterol meds, their blood pressure meds, or their arthritis meds! (Of course neither of us are medical professionals, but these are the things he hears from his customers.)
I also looooove their oregano, and people who like olives buy theirs by the barrel and tell me that they are amazing. Personally, I can't stand ANY olive, ZERO. It's funny that I can't get enough of this olive oil, though, huh?
I thought I'd share a real live comment from Linda, one of my readers… (Find more of my recommendations here.)
“I just wanted to let you know that I followed two of your recommendations for products and I am totally satisfied with them! One of them I bought was the olive oil you recommend and it is excellent, so light and fresh! I realize now that almost every olive oil I have bought in the past was rancid when I bought it!”
Here's a reeeally good book that was originally recommended to me by Karl: Extra Virginity. You'll be hooked on EVOO even more if you aren't already, and you'll also be even more intent on knowing your source.
