$40 Amazon Prize Giveaway: J.A. Henckels International Knives

For the next Kitchen Kop Giveaway, the prize is $40 worth of J.A. Henckels International Knives.

Here’s what Kimmi, my friend and blog assistant, has to say about these knives:

Yes, more prizes to help you avoid knife envy!

Because most people could use a new knife once in a while, right?

I like these knives but I am a rookie – I’m sure there may be better out there, but this is the nicest one I have.

Maybe I’m the only dumb dumb that was using some silly steak knives for food prep?

My sister in law stayed at the house a couple of years ago with our kids while we were away and called while making chili to ask where my chopping knife was. I told her where all of the knives were and what she saw is what we had. She was incredulous at how we had gotten along without a chopping knife for chopping onions and other veggies etc. I had never had one so didn’t know any other way. Well the sweetheart went out and bought one for us and I have used that knife probably almost every single day since!  (The single knife pictured is the type she bought for me.)

I’m not quite sure what I had used before but definitely love having this knife now and it is an essential tool for me today.  A knife or knife set is just not that “fun” to shop for or spend money on but once I had this new knife I was hooked. I figured that my very practical parents could use one of these and they are pretty hard to buy for because they don’t really NEED anything. We put one in a Christmas goodie basket for them and now they too understand the benefits of having this knife in the kitchen!

Thanks Kimmi!  So do you want one yet?  I do!  I’m adding it to my wish list.  :)

  1. Betty says

I get your news letter. I would choose the knife in the link. Haven’t had a new knife in long time and this looks perfect because of size, its carbon steel , well made, and can cut thin slices.

  2. Mary Beth Elderton says

I’d LOVE the knife shown on the link! I don’t have one like it, and it would make some chores so much easier.

  3. sherri says

I love love my santuko, but I also used to have a small one that broke. I need a new small one for small jobs , and small hands it was perfect for the kids to learn with.

  4. Tina H. says

I would choose the cleaver. There are many times when cutting whole chickens (from our grass-based farm) that I need a cleaver. The kitchen shears just don’t “cut” it.

  5. Naomi says

I would get that knife. I have a set of Cutco knives and it includes a longer knife like this one, but I’d really like a shorter one like this 7″ one.

  6. J.J. says

I’ve never used a santuko, but it looks like it would be a great size and shape for the kind of cutting I do. I’d choose either that or a meat cleaver.

  7. Brooke G says

I would get the 5 inch Santoku knife. I have the larger one, and I have loved the smaller one my sister has. So this would be my choice!

  8. Linda says

I hope I am doing everything correctly. I haven’t won any giveaways yet, but I do everything I can in the raffle thing so I think I’m entered. I need a good paring knife and I think the 4″ knife would be the one for me. If I don’t win this one maybe I can get it for my birthday. I would put a happy face here, but I don’t know how.

  9. mary p says

Already a subscriber. I’d like to get (if I win) J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 2-Piece Hollow Edge Santoku Set and J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener to keep them sharp.

  10. Judy says

I like the large chopping knife. I have one similar to it which I use all the time. Unfortunately, I broke the tip off of it trying to separate frozen beef.

  11. Tara McGinnis says

I love a great chopping knife and this knife looks like it can stand the test of my kitchen. The 5 inch knife also looks like a great option. Sometimes the shorter knives are a little more manageable. I’ve never tried the Santokus but am hoping to win so I can. I am signed up for the newsletter. Thanks

  12. Marilyn says

I am already signed up, and I would pick the knife below. I like this kind of knife better for chopping and it cuts raw meats well also.
J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Chef’s Knife

  13. Andrea says

I am signed up and I would love this knife as a good all purpose chopping knife. I own kitchen aid knives now and I’m not too happy with them.

  14. Naomi Williams says

I would choose anything EXCEPT that knife, because after 30 years of using the knife-set I bought at a swap-meet 30+ years ago, I finally broke down and bought a good 7-inch chef’s knife last week!

  15. Ronnette Condron says

i am already signed up for your newsletter. I’m not sure what I would choose. Already have fantastic knives but could use some good safe storage containers.

  16. Grace says

Just got this exact knife set from my mother inlaw for Christmas. I would use the $40 towards a new juicer.

  17. Kari says

I would buy that one AND the smaller one like it probably. I also liked the Wusthof Silverpoint knife and sharpener set though.

  18. Laura says

Okay, so I would pick the same knife (the 7″ Satouku) pictured. Why? Because I own Henckel knives (in a butcher block no less), but not THAT one. And I switch between a paring knife, and longer paring knife to “chop” because the next one up is for Bread, and the next one after that is too large. I would love to make chopping that much easier! :)

  19. Natasha Boss says

I would choose the chef’s knife because I like the shape better. I tried one of the Santoku style one’s at a pampered chef party and didn’t really like the feel of it. The one I currently own is the chef’s knife style (although seriously needs some sharpening help), and it just feels better in my hand.

  20. Andrea says

I would probably choose the knife shown because I LOVE a good santoku knife! We have a pretty good one now (actually, we have two different sizes) but I like to use separate items for meats, fruits/veggies, bread, etc. If I had one more santoku knife, I could sing to people when they came over “Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat, wouldn’t you say my collections complete?” a la Little Mermaid 😉

  21. Sheri O. says

I would choose a Santoku, but I’d choose the 5″ because I have smaller hands and they fit better in my hands!

  22. Nissa says

I don’t know much about knives other than that my dull ones are dangerous! I’ve heard that Santoku knives are great, so I think I would go with the one in the link

  23. AnnaZed says

Oh my, your assistant is right and I have such a THING for knives. Some of them the men are simply not allowed to even touch in my house. I have a block for everyday And a little shelf with a row of paring knives And a drawer where my best knives and my cleaver live nested on a dish cloth.

So, what I would buy would be this thing that I have been coveting that I am pretty sure is still technically a knife:

    J.A. Henckels 2-Piece Mincing Set
    http://www.amazon.com/J-A-Henckels-2-Piece-Mincing-Set/dp/B00006CJLN/ref=sr_1_41?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1335628140&sr=1-41

It’s a little cutting board with a depression in it and a curved two-bladed mincer for herbs and such. I get serious kitchen accouterment envy over that thing; it would be so great to satisfy it.

**note** There is no box on my screen for this info in the Rafflecopter widget:

Kelly, I have been receiving your dangerously funny and informative newsletter at this box:
margueritecore [at] gmail [dot] com not the one associated with the Rafflecopter.

  24. Cheryl S says

    Hi Kelly,
I signed up the the fabulous Knife giveaway! Love your newsletter!
I think the bread knife would be a great addition.

  25. Zoe Rae says

I have a Henckels paring knife and love it. I do not have a Santoku knife, so I would love to have this one.

  26. kitblu says

Looks like a good knife but I need a steel. I dropped mine a while ago leaving only 1.5″ left on the handle to sharpen with. I have to focus very carefully now and go sloooowly.

  27. kris says

I would chose the knife you have chosen. I have not taken the time or have the resources to purchase a new knife. This knife is much better than my old dull knives. Thank you for your newsletter, I enjoy it very much!

  28. Marilyn says

I would pick the 8 inch chef knife because I have some very beautiful young adults who are handy in the kitchen. We are learning to make some wonderful real food and love helping each other. I can see why women got together and prepared their food. It is way more fun. The time goes by so quickly.

  29. says

I’m a subscriber (sung to “I’m a believer yeah yeah yeah yeah”)! My husband and sons love to sharpen knives AND they all cook. We can’t have too many kitchen knives around this house. I eat real good!!!

  30. Doina says

If I win, I would definitely get the steak knives since my son inadvertently had one in his backpack when we went through airport security (long story) and they had to confiscate it so now I only have 7 instead of 8, so I could have my set of 8 and some left over. :)

  31. Erica says

Signed up for the newsletter. I would choose this knife. My husband and I both love to cook and could use a good knife!

  32. Susan Jonell Roragen says

I read the reviews for this and it sounds somewhat small for many jobs. However, this size would make me very happy since I have no knives of quality of any size. Very nice giveaway. Thank you.

  33. Pak says

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Chef’s Knife would be the one I choose, because I need one.

  34. Bevie says

The Henckel is nice, but I think I would get one of the Wusthof ones instead, I used to have one of those and it was absolutely wonderful.

  35. Kathy says

I like the Santoku Knife you chose, as well as the cleaver and the paring knife. If I only had one to choose, I would go with the Santoku as I think I would use it the most.

  36. Emily N. says

I’d get the J.A. Henckels International Classic 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Chef’s Knife because it says it’s good for slicing, dicing, chopping and mincing.

  37. Diane says

I think I like the 8″ carving knife. I know I’d have to be careful using this knife. Cut my finger last week on a PC knife. Not used to something sharp!

  38. marissia w says

Yes I like this knife being featured for giveaway. I only have 1 knife! So beggers can’t be choosy at this point

  39. Susan H. says

I’d get these steak knives: Twin Gourmet High-Carbon Stainless Steel Steak Knives–right now I have dollar store steak knives or from the thrift store!

  40. says

I would choose the kitchen shears and paring knife. My second shears are already broken (but I keep using them) and I use paring knives constantly.

  41. D.B.A. says

I LOVE J.A. Henckels knives and have used them for years. I am in need of another paring knife or 6″ utility knife, as someone in my household used mine to pry open something with it and did the almost impossible…bent the sharp tip of it.

  42. Kelly Jo says

I’d choose the Henckles–I have an awesome set–if I won these they’d go to my nutritionist sister who loves to cook new things but has lame knives.

  43. April says

I’d probably choose a different knife. I’m kind of like Kimmie was with using the steak knives for everything, so I’d probably pick something like the “J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 2-Piece Hollow Edge Santoku Set” just because its cheaper and you get 2 knives, then I could throw in some paring knives too, because I reallllly need some of those (i know I had 2 before I moved, where the heck could they have disappeared to?!? lol). Also, I just don’t know enough about knives to know the difference, and that set looks like it would be good for what I’d use it for. :)

  44. Kate says

I would choose the knife in the link. I have never tried a Santoku knife before, and I would really like something better than the cheap knives I have.

  45. Shannon S says

I would love the 8 inch knife for cutting whole chickens. Soooo tired of using my crappy knives to saw them apart.

  46. Amanda Y. says

Honestly, I don’t know a lot about “good” knives, but this looks really like a useful size and has mostly good reviews!

  47. Natalie J Vandenberghe says

I actually think I WOULD buy the J.A. Henckels International Henckels Classic 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge because I don’t have a knife like that! Thanks for the giveaway!

  48. Kathi P. says

It’s a toss-up between the paring knife, coffee pot, or stainless steel baking sheets. :-) There are just too many items I need to replace!

  49. Jess K says

I would choose the knife in the link because I am still searching for that perfect knife. Being short and kind of wimpy, I think I need a knife with a good balance. The Henkel knife that came with my wedding set 10 years ago is nice, but not quite right.

  50. says

I would choose the knife link also. My mom could really use some new knifes. Her newest knifes are almost 15 years old and super dull. With Mothers Day coming up, this is a perfect oppertunity to give her the late mothers day present she needs. Thankyou so much for doing these “giveaways” and the chance to win all of them!

  51. Linda Rickman says

I would choose the knife link, my knives are near their end of their lives and these would be a great addition.

  52. Andrea Pires says

I think this would be way better than the knives we have. I’ve held expensive knives at the store, but I’ve never used one. If I didn’t like the knife, I’d probably get some of the textbooks on my wishlist, or some new kitchen gadgets.

    • Andrea Pires says

Oops, sorry! I put in the wrong e-mail address. This should fix it. =)

I think this would be way better than the knives we have. I’ve held expensive knives at the store, but I’ve never used one. If I didn’t like the knife, I’d probably get some of the textbooks on my wishlist, or some new kitchen gadgets.

  53. Christy says

I like the knife you picked. I have a similar knife in my kitchen and use it a lot. But having a new one would keep me from having to sharpen the one I’ve already got!

  54. Laura says

I already have a wonderful set of knives, but the $40 would help toward other kitchen gadgets that’s I’d love to have.

  55. Theresa says

I like the knife you chose, because I have no idea what to look for in knives, and it looks like a good place to start :p

  56. Jean says

I would probably go with the 6″ knife just because I feel like I have greater control with a smaller knife and find them easier for quick slicing and chopping of veggies.

  57. Sandy says

I love your newsletter, Kelly! It’s always informative about current topics that everyone should be aware of. And I love your Wednesday newsletter with all the recipes and blog articles that other bloggers send you. Thanks for helping me with my quest for eating and living healthy!

  58. Tiffany A says

I have a decent chopping knife, but the set I have didn’t come with a filet knife, so that is what I would choose. I’ve been having a rough time with skinning meats and could really put a good filet knife to use!

  59. says

I would chose the cleaver. I’ve ALWAYS wanted one. I don’t even know if they work better… I just think they look classic. 😀 Besides, we buy a lot of meat from a (local!) butcher and I do a lot of hacking with my smaller Henckels knives. It would be LOVELY to have a proper meat knife!

  60. Chandra says

Would love to get the 4″ pairing knife, that would sure come in handy in my kitchen. Thanks for offering this.

  61. Beth says

I’d choose this one. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Four Star 6-Inch Stainless-Steel Slicing Knife
    Thanks!

  62. Kim F. says

I think I would like the 8-in. chef’s knife. I don’t really like the straight blade of a big knife. I much prefer a rounded blade, using the rocking motion, if I’m doing a lot of chopping, slicing, etc.

  63. jo says

Love the santoku! I keep seeing them on tv ifomercials and have resisted the urge because I don’t trust them. THIS I trust!!

  64. says

I would either choose that knife or the steak knives. My current steak knives drive me crazy because the serrated teeth get caught on everything!

  65. Jennifer says

I have a good knife in the style that is linked to. I would choose a bread knife. The one I have right now is crummy (pun intended!)

  66. Tammy says

I want them because I really need knives! We have no good knives in our house. These knives would be fantastic to have! They look really nice.
