Good morning reader friends.
Now that the 2011 Weight Loss & Wellness Adventure is technically over (hopefully you’re not straying too far off the healthy path though), there are some posts that I’m excited to finally run in the next few weeks. One is an update on our doctor’s office, our school and immunizations. Another is a fun story about a local restaurant we visited recently. Another is about a successful local healthy school lunch program. There’s all sorts of good stuff coming up, be sure to subscribe to the blog via RSS or email if you haven’t yet so you don’t miss anything. Here’s what I’ve got for you today, though…
- Update on my job situation: As always, I’m an open book with all of you because you feel more like friends to me than strangers from all over the world, so here’s the scoop… Since the beginning of the year I’d been getting vibes and finally asked the chiropractor I was going to work with what was going on. He confirmed that things have changed since he brought a new neurological chiropractor into the office (who doesn’t stress nutrition as much) and asked if I’d do referrals for him outside the office instead. When he sought me out last August I wasn’t looking for a job because I’m busy enough with my websites as it is, and wasn’t sure how I felt about being a work-outside-the-home Mom anyway, but this opportunity was too good to pass up. (Being paid well for something I really love to do – help people eat better!) So now that things have changed, I’m only a little disappointed, but actually feel relieved, too, because more flexible hours rather than two set days a week might work out better.
- Dr. Eades’ new post, The Big Lie, is right on the money, as always: “Nutritionally I can’t think of a bigger lie than the one claiming that fats in general and saturated fats in particular are bad for us. This lie is so deeply embedded in the minds of most that you couldn’t blow it out with a stick of dynamite. Especially in the minds of academics, and more especially in the minds of most dietitians. Not all, but most. Nutritionally, it is truly the Big Lie. Despite the fact that they all tenaciously cling to the Big Lie, the evidence disputes it. But, “a lie told well is immortal.” His discussion further into the article on the politically correct “low-glycemic-load” diet vs. the politically incorrect “Low-carb” diet is very interesting, too.
Just in case I haven’t bored you all to death with my Zumba stories, there’s more. It’s getting better every time. So much that I may even sign up for another session to get me through ‘til summer when I can be outside more, just because it’s keeping me moving. THEN, get this: I called our local school of dance instructor, and she said if I could get enough people, she’d do any kind of exercise/dance class we wanted in the fall – local friends, are you with me? What a blast we’d have! Let me know if you want me to put your name on a list to call when it’s closer.- This article just makes me sad, that’s all. (Good thing my homemade ice cream is so much better anyway.)
Do you remember the guest post from Stan Fishman: Another Real Food Miracle? Well don’t miss his sequel, “My Second Real Food Miracle”! “When it comes to bone health, SAD is bad. Many Americans suffer from thin and brittle bones, especially when they get older. It is very common for an older person to break a hip or some other bone from a relatively minor fall.” Don’t forget Stan has a great cookbook out to help you cook grass-fed meats successfully, there is a trick to it for sure: Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat.- I think I shared this link with my Facebook friends recently, but not here. I love this short 9 minute video with Sally Fallon: “It’s better to have high cholesterol than low cholesterol.“ It’s not easy wrapping your brain around that one if you’re new to the Real Foodie world is it? Have you seen this post: “How difficult was it for you to give up the low-fat mentality?”

Hey Kel…what happened to the “,,,fun story about a local restaurant we visited recently…”
Coming soon on the blog, not *today*!! You must be speed reading again, Chris.
Why does that article just cut off abruptly? Hmph.
Which article specifically??
Oh but I meant to add, lol, good stuff! I twittered it. And that soft serve article… ew. I’m sorry to hear about your job, although it sounds like it might work out well this way too. WIsh I were going to see you at Blissdom!
Hmm…fascinating piece about cholesterol. It sounds like the job will ultimately work out better for you.
Oh, I’m so glad you’re sticking with Zumba. I meant to encourage you in your previous post when you talked about disliking the Latin music. They don’t always use Latin music…depending on the instructor, they change it up a lot. Some do Beyonce (I think it was Single Ladies) and other fun dance songs. I actually think the Latin music is fun, and since I can’t understand the words, I can enjoy it without wishing the lyrics weren’t so stupid! I bought the Zumba for Wii and I love it!
I really enjoy reading your blog. I am learning so much. As for Zumba-I go twice a week and LOVE it!
When I tried to get the ice cream article it kept opening an article about a Colonel who was waiving his right to a trial in some murder case. I am not sure what I did wrong because it was like I was being redirected. It would start out with the title of the ice cream article and then it would change before it started loading. I really wanted to read that article too.
That’s weird, it is still working for me.

Kelly,
What kind of ice cream maker do you use? I’ve wanted to buy the no-ice kind for awhile, I just don’t know what brand to get. Thanks.
This link shows the one I use and LOVE:
