I love hearing how your last month’s goals went and what you have planned in the kitchen for this month, be sure to share in the comments!

Do you have a blog?

If you have a blog and plan to share your kitchen goals there, feel free to grab the picture above, and then leave us a link to your post in the comments.  :)

My goals last month:

I kept my goals simple, and guess what?  I met them!  I made fermented carrots AND we made Christmas cookies!  I made a recipe I like that isn’t too sweet, since the frosting is so sweet on the top.  Then I had what I thought was a good idea:  I made mini sugar cookies to take with me on Christmas Eve to Kent’s Mom’s to dip into the homemade chocolate fondue I was bringing (along with some other dippers)…  Well, apparently I didn’t make it clear that those were only for dipping into chocolate, not to eat plain, because my nephews gave me a hard time about the sugar cookies that “didn’t have a bit of sugar in them”!  And of course this always drives me crazy because I’m constantly on a perpetual mission to prove to everyone in both our families, especially the teenagers, that Real Food really DOES taste great, so I hate it when anything I make bombs, and this is not unusual for me!  LOL!  Not that none of them cook with Real Food, because they do, but you know what I mean.  (Most of our family members don’t read my blog, and they still think that the “health food” I write about includes things like broccoli and tofu.  Little do they know that I rarely even mention veggies and would NEVER suggest someone eat tofu!)

This month’s goals:

I told you last week about my new job, so my goals for this month are to get better about menu planning ahead of time at least on the nights I work.  That’s it.  I’m going to keep it simple again, because that’s what worked last month!  Also, when I asked my sisters-in-law for their advice as I begin working outside the home a couple days a week, this is what they said:

  • Have you meals planned for the days you work.
  • Allow yourself some transition time, and don’t try to do too much…
  • On the days you work, ONLY work, feed the family when you get home, do homework with the kids, and hang with the family until bedtime, that’s it.

I love that advice, and I’m going to try to stick to it.

Now tell us your kitchen goals for this month?!

I’ve been meaning to join in on this for a while but with one thing and another….
So, now I’ve joined your Weightloss and Wellness Adventure I’m going to get in on this as well. Back to menu planning for me too.

If I can manage it I also want to begin making bread again. I was just given a breadmaker so want to get away from supermarket bread as much as possible for my family as they’re not quite on board with the no grains thing yet. :-D

I’ve found that baby steps are the only way I can reach my ultimate goals because I become overwhelmed if I try to make big changes all at once. You can read about my kitchen goals for January 2011 at http://woodwifesjournal.blogspot.com/2011/01/january-kitchen-goals.html

My big one is meal plan too. Even if we don’t exactly follow it (like we had pork chops instead of the planned steak last night), it’s good to know we have something planned instead of standing in front of the fridge wondering what to have.

I also want to make one ferment this month. I am having trouble getting motivated to try one so this month, I will :)

Great tips! I like to make a whole batch on weekends and have some “fresh” frozen meals ready to go.

I feel like I am repeating myself, but I am going low carb. I am making an effort to keep up with the ferments. We have a new seafood market in town and I WANT more fish. One of my goals is to make fish broth, which I have never done. Unfortunately I can’t get large fish heads from them, but once I find a good source I will make that broth. And once my son goes back to school I will have liver again.

I like their advice. For me it really helps to prep/plan both the meal for the day I’m working outside the home and the day AFTER because it takes me a whole day to recover! I don’t always even have the meal for the work day planned but when I do both it makes a big difference.

Perfect post for me this morning because today is my work-outside-the-home day (and milk pickup and 4-H meeting and dd’s community service project and…). Gee, no wonder I can’t recover my adrenals!! We’re just having beans and rice that are already cooked that I’ll mix in the crockpot to heat while we’re gone and organic tortilla chips tonight for dinner. Mega carbs, eh? Does it count that I made your kale chips last night for me??? :) I’ll try them today – they are on the counter so I go for them before the pretzels.

My goal? Just to investigate and decide on a meal planner. And make sauerkraut because my jar is 1/2 empty. I’m also making monthly calendars relating mainly food (of course!) to Feast Days. I had one for December and am still working on January’s – I will keep posting these files on my blog.

My goal for this month is to be in the kitchen again. I started working outside the home in August. My goals are to start making stock again, to bake our bread, and to plan meals ahead and have them assembled and ready to go. So far I have made ham broth, soaked beans for in the freezer, had the dough ready for homemade pizza pockets that my children assembled when they got home from school yesterday, and have baked bread today. My children have had a few months of quick easy meals and convenience things they had begged for and over the last few months they have been asking when I was going back to homemade.

My goal is to plan a “slow” day or hour this month where I don’t feel guilty if I just sit and knit or read.
Just to give myself the privilege to “do nothing” or just rest my brain that’s alway thinking.
Can be a challenge on some days! Whew!

My goal is to plan meals more, and to make a healthy version of Miracle Whip for my husband.

Have you tried my homemade mayo? I wonder if you could just add a bit more sugar to that for a taste like Miracle Whip??

I love goals! I’ve finally conquered the menu planning thing, and it has saved our family! My goal this month is to clean out and organize my freezer to make room for some nourishing foods I can make before our first baby arrives in March. Yippee!

Menu planning–what a great goal! I actually have gotten much better at winging it, but as I read a post about beans and rice in the slow cooker, I am reminded that I get in slumps sometimes–there was a period last summer where we had beans and rice for 2 meals (or more!) each week for probably a month! The latest “slump” is soup, although with the varieties I make of that, I doubt it counts. With that being said, my goals this month are 1) to find a new farm store (ours got raided by the FDA–we can only get our cow share milk right now) so we can have decent eggs and poultry (we have a side of beef in our freezer already), and to enliven the menu a bit. If that means meal planning, then SO BE IT! LOL

I’ll check out your mayo recipe. I want to make mayo and ketchup this month and ferment at least one vegetable.

I got mine up! We got through December, phew!
I’ve got a few things I need to focus on, mostly keeping within budget, cleaning out, and using what we have. I’ll try to get my bigger projects out the way early this month!

I know this is a lame goal, but my goal is to get the kitchen sink re-caulked this month. I do so much cooking/cleaning up that the caulk has worn away and water is dripping under the sink into the cabinet below. The challenge is to stop cooking/cleaning up long enough so that after the sink is caulked I can let it dry for at least 8 hours so that it fully dries before I start rocking the sink again! That’s where the challenge comes in as it seems my kitchen is always hopping with some sort of activity until 11pm at night — soooo might have to be caulking in the wee hours to meet this goal!
