- OK, I reeeeally need your help. Will you go to this other new post today and give me your brutally honest opinion on something…pretty please?
Remember tomorrow is the first Tuesday, and the first “Kitchen Goal of the Month” post! (Thank you, Jeanne, for the idea!) Please pop in to share YOUR kitchen goals for February, or you could leave a link in the comments if you’ll be writing a post about it at your own blog. (I’m not using Mr. Linky for this one.) Feel free to grab this picture if you want to use it in your post. - Tomorrow I’ll post an updated list of Superbowl appetizer ideas in case you’re having people over for a shebang, so be sure to check back.
- I just updated my Advertise page to include a picture of the Real Food Media bloggers who were able to come to the Weston Price conference in November. This picture is also in the current issue of Wise Traditions!
- Do you know anyone who might like to advertise on the Real Food Media blog network? It’s a great way to get in front of dedicated Real Foodies! Read more at the Advertise page.
- Do you guys want to enter an awesome giveaway? Hallee is celebrating her 6 month blog anniversary by giving away, get this, $100 cash or a $180 cookware set!
- The following link is to a post that is great all on its own, but when you realize it’s written by a 12 year old (now 13 year old) it’s even better: 12 things kids should learn on their own about food.
- Another awesome Real Food Face-Off from Katie at Kitchen Stewardship, featuring Sarah from Sarah’s Musings and my friend, Ann Marie, from Cheeseslave!! FULL of great information!
Remember Real Food Wednesday is at Ann Marie/Cheeseslave’s blog this week!

My kitchen goal of the month is not so much a kitchen goal as a food sourcing goal. I finally joined an organic food buyers’ club, so my new goal is to go “off the grid” as much as possible. This is my month to stay out of grocery stores and to patronize local farmers for staple foods. (Next month: budgeting!)

I am new to this and loving your blog!
I have a couple products that I would like to know your opinion on. Where do these stand nutritionally?? I am confused, I guess, about what is healthy and what is not!
1. Smart Balance butter
2. Smart Balance peanutbutter
3. Eggland’s Best eggs
Thanks for your help!

Hi Elizabeth,
One look at the loooong ingredient labels on that Smart Balance stuff is your best clue to avoid them. We use REAL butter (it’s so good for you!) and organic peanut butter.
As to eggs, your best bet is to find a local farmer who lets his chickens roam around outside in fresh air and sun and feeds them organic feed. Try http://www.eatwellguide.org. Just think of what is most natural, a REAL FOOD that doesn’t have a long list of unpronounceable words.
You can use search or look through the topic index here on the blog to find more on all this.
I’m glad you found your way to my site!
Kelly
