For soap: Dr Bronner's is the best. The ingredients are superb, and the quality is second to none. Invest in the gallon size, and the price gets very reasonable--especially if you buy from a co-op. For branded good skin care products of any sort: keep an eye on your local salvage grocery place. I'm in the Bay area, where we have Grocery Outlet. They've had a lot of JASON personal care products lately, and I found good butter (Anchor brand) there yesterday, so I am going back this afternoon to stock up!

I buy most of my products from: http://www.prairielandherbs.com I use their shampoo bar my favorite is the Rosemary Nettle. I also use their bar soaps for my body and they have Luxury Soaps that I use for my face. I use their soft roses scent deodorant which is my favorite natural deodorant. I have their Sandalwood Amber perfume which smells nice. For conditioner I usually do the ACV vinegar rinse and sometimes I will use Aubrey Organics conditioner. I use coconut oil as lotion and for my face I use jojoba oil. I buy mineral makeup from: http://www.jlynnecosmetics.com/ Alison

I shared a link to the Passionate Homemaking blogs Homemade Shampoo recipe. My husband uses it as shave cream too! He has to rub it between both hands to get a lather, then slathers it on his face.

Peggy, we all probably wish we had known this stuff when we were younger. There's a couple high school girls who comment here now and then and I always tell them how GREAT it is that they're catching on to all this EARLY!

I've been having a blast reading everyone's links and comments. I've got a few new items on my list for the store, too!

Thanks, everyone!

You girls are AMAZING! I have just recently been turned on to the idea of all of the types of things you talk about here. I think I am much older than all of you, and wish that I had known these things when I was your age. The deception of all of the mass marketed products whether food, skin/body care, or pharmaceuticals is beyond my comprehension. I don't have a blog or website, just wanted you to know that I am very interested in what you have to say and also very impressed! I am so new to all of this, but would like to learn. Don't really know much about blogs, but I may have to step out there and give it a try. May need some help along the way. Thank you for all of your info.

I love to use honey and yogurt masks for your face! It drips a little so do this while taking a nice bath ; )

I like to use old Avocado as a hair conditioner. OMG! your hair is so nice. Just mash it up and mush it in! Better than any salon treatment they can think of. If you have frizzy hair add a little bit of coconut oil to it, and your frizz will be tamed.

I second the baking soda as a face scrub. The best ever! For a toner mix equal parts peroxide and apple cider vinegar. Only if you have oily skin, as I do. Vinegar should be good for normal skin.

If you have build up on your scalp try scrubbing it with brow sugar. This makes my scalp feel so nice. I add rosemary and lavender oil to it. These are the best for hair.

I like products by The Vital Image when it comes to creams, and eye gel. They are steep so I use them sparingly, but they are awesome!

Kelly, ......Oops, please remove my linky #10 because I'll post here.

For deoderant, I use coconut oil mixed with baking soda to form a very thick paste when the oil is warm enough to be liquid. I pack it into a small jar. I found that during the summer, it stayed a paste and I wet the tip of my finger and rub it on. It works whether I've shaved or not. I too found that it worked a day after I put it on....I was still protected.

Cheeseslave, I too had a HORRIBLE time trying the baking soda no-poo, but I read a suggestion that made me try again. I stirred 1 T. BSoda in half a glass of BOILING water and stirred very well, then when I got to the shower, I added cold water and somehow this was totally different for my hair. I stopped the vinegar rinse too. I think I have rather hard well water and now I'm completely happy with no-poo. Boiling water was the key for me. -Judy
